Jennifer Lopez's film Atlas was released on Netflix on May 24, 2024, and has received a lot of negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. Lopez plays Atlas Shepherd, the main character of the story, in a sci-fi dilemma between her mistrust and need for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reach her goals.

While it is currently listed as the number 1 movie on Netflix, many viewers are criticizing the film for lacking production design and cheesy narrative tropes. A few audience members did admit that the intriguing narrative structure had scope, but pointed out that the direction and Lopez's acting did nothing to enhance the viewing experience.

Many fans and critics pointed out what they felt was disappointing about the film. The main concern was that the script was a weak one and that the storyline ended up being very unimaginative and predictable. Given that science fiction is a popular genre with a large fanbase, many viewers felt that the film had recycled generic themes and used them as superficial tropes.

Some viewers also felt that the writing flaw extended to the characters as well as the plot. They believed that Lopez's character was intended to be shown as a brilliant and no-nonsense data scientist but came off as a whiny teenager who threw frequent tantrums.

On the other hand, many fans also felt that Jennifer Lopez did not contribute well to the character with her acting. Audiences found her expressions unnecessarily loud, emotional, and one-track. They felt that the actress did not bring any depth to the already wobbly arc of her character, thereby ruining it completely.

Some viewers have admitted that the basic concept of the story had scope to make a great film only if it had been explored properly. It now seems unanimous that the Netflix film disappointed most of the sci-fi fans who had been looking forward to it. It has been rated 5.6/10 on IMDb and has a shocking 19% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing.
