Tom Holland recently revealed that he sometimes Googles his girlfriend, Zendaya. During a conversation on Samah Dada's On The Menu podcast, published on October 31, 2024, the actor opened up about his off-public relationship.
Holland first met Zendaya in 2017 while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming, where she played his love interest, MJ. The two began dating in 2021 but have largely kept their relationship out of the public eye.
On the podcast, while discussing his new non-alcoholic beer line, Bero, Samah asked Tom Holland, who the last person he googled was. He adorably responded that it was his girlfriend, Zendaya.
“So, sometimes, like, it’s more of a bit of an anxiety thing, but I’ll check to see if everything’s good and to make sure we’re all cool. So I just give her a little Google and look [through] the news, and I’m like, ‘She’s good. We’re fine,'” he explained.
The actor explained that he does this out of anxiety for her well-being, given the constant news circling on social media.
Tom Holland and Zendaya's relationship has been through public hindrances in past few years
During a conversation with Samah on her podcast, Tom Holland revealed that Google has been his source of staying updated on the latest news. He stated:
“I’m not on social media, and I delete it when I’m not using it,” which makes his online searches a means to stay connected.
On October 24, 2024, the couple faced a rough patch in public during the New York City launch party. As per an E-News article published on October 26, 2024, Holland stepped out to take Zendaya out from a crowd of covering shutterbugs.
The couple has opened up about keeping their relationship away from the cameras and headlines. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, published on June 14, 2023, Tom Holland said:
"Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of and we want to keep as sacred as possible. We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers"
In an interview with Elle, published on August 23, 2023, Zendaya discussed how she tries not to avoid public curiosity while deciding to take control of her private life. She said:
"Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public. I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own, but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”
Over the years, Tom Holland and Zendaya have been beloved by audiences for their on and off-screen chemistry. The two have appeared together in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2021).
A Spider-Man 4 movie is in the works
On October 17, 2024, during a conversation on the Rich Roll Podcast, Tom Holland shared that he had read the draft of the script of Spider-Man 4 with Zendaya. He appreciated the writers but noted that it still needs work. Destin Daniel Cretton, who has earlier directed MCU's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021, is set to direct the fourth Spider-Man movie, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya.
In the conversation, Holland gave a brief explanation of the development process of the new movie. He focused on the significance of the current MCU timeline and how every new movie should follow its sequence. The actor stated:
"And you need to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing. The time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the fantastic people we have working on it now.”
Holland has always expressed how he is very protective of his character and wants to make sure that every movie in the franchise only gets better. All three of Holland and Zendaya's Spider-Man movies have grossed a total of $ 3.96 billion globally.
The complete trilogy was directed by Jon Watts, and it will be interesting to see how Destin Daniel Cretton approaches this beloved character in the future. Both Sony and Marvel have not made any official comments yet. Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna are back working on the script, while Amy Pascal, head of Sony, will be producing the movie alongside Kevin Feige.
