Actor and filmmaker Justin Baldoni is trending online ahead of the August 9 release of his new romantic drama film, It Ends With Us. Baldoni directed and starred in the movie, which also features Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Amy Morton, and Kevin McKidd.
However, social media users are now speculating that Justin Baldoni is feuding with the cast of the movie, especially Blake Lively, which is why he is being reportedly ignored by them at promotional events and premieres, including the one in New York City on August 6.
Images and videos from the event have emerged online that revealed all the cast members interacting with each other, but seemingly keeping their distance from Baldoni.
For instance, X user @taknml commented on @brvttie’s post by claiming that the circumstances surrounding It Ends With Us were similar to that of the psychological thriller movie Don’t Worry Darling from two years back. At the time, rumors arose that there were tensions between director Olivia Wilde and lead actress Florence Pugh.
“Like what is going on there??? It’s giving ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ but worse since it seems like everybody has a problem with him,” the user wrote.
Several others joined in the conversation on the platform and made similar assumptions, comparing the latest drama to that of the 2022 Harry Styles starrer, Don't Worry Darling, and calling it a PR move.
“Them pulling the ‘Don't Worry Darling’ drama public stunt,” a person wrote.
“They're trying to recreate the ‘Don't Worry Darling’ drama and it's not gonna work anymore,” one person wrote.
“Close enough, welcome back ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’” another person wrote.
Others wanted to learn more about the alleged drama and get to the “bottom” of the “tea.”
“Justin Baldoni, Blake Lively, and Brandon Sklenar are all at the premiere of ‘It Ends with Us’ in NYC and they’re all still not interacting with Justin. Mind you, he’s the producer, director, and main character. Oh, best believe I’m going to get to the bottom of this tea,” a netizen wrote.
“Oh, Queen Jenny Slate… so something DEFINITELY happened on the set of ‘It Ends With Us’ and everyone hates Justin Baldoni. I need to get to the bottom of it,” one netizen wrote.
“I want to know so bad what’s up with Justin Baldoni and the ‘It Ends with Us’ cast. It feels like Don’t Worry Darling 2.0,” another netizen wrote.
Meanwhile, fans of Baldoni came to his defense, while some even blamed Blake Lively and her husband and actor Ryan Reynolds, who are reportedly co-producers for the film for feuding with its director and lead actor.
“Justin Baldoni, they can’t make me hate you! That man is a sweetheart, no way he’s the reason behind this (and he’s directed multiple movies with no complaints…. I blame the Reynolds/ Lively money-making machine),” an individual wrote.
“I’m siding with Justin Baldoni over that “married in a plantation” couple any day. Next. The book sucks anyway,” another individual wrote.
Exploring the alleged drama between Justin Baldoni and the It Ends With Us cast
It Ends With Us is a 2024 romantic film directed by Justin Baldoni and adapted from Collen Hoover’s 2016 novel of the same name, with Christy Hall writing its screenplay. Earlier this week, speculation arose on social media platforms, including Reddit where users claimed that there was a “potential mess” between Baldoni, and the rest of the film’s cast.
“Blake Lively isn’t following him on IG (though she definitely was early on), nor is the rest of the main cast or Colleen Hoover even though he follows all of them and recently did a promo event with Colleen. And yet they all follow one another - but not Justin,” Redditor @sugg28 wrote on the r/Fauxmoi page.
The user also claimed that Justin was not part of the “endless promo” on Blake Lively’s social media, even though she usually “loves to mention numerous people in those captions so skipping over the director/lead actor seems like a choice!”
Subsequently, after the New York City premiere, reports emerged that the cast members maintained distance from Justin Baldoni, first claimed by TikToker Jenna Redfield. She hypothesized that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who are co-producers of the film, reportedly wanted more “creative control” but Justin seemingly didn’t let that happen, thus leading to an alleged beef. Speculations that it was a mere publicity stunt or Baldoni was difficult to work with were also thrown around.
Meanwhile, Baldoni is “heavily promoting” his new film on social media apart from attending its premieres. During the NYC premiere, he told the press that the project happened due to some “divine guidance” and author Collen Hoover realizing his “intention” of turning her book into a film.
Besides, he also called Blake Lively a “creative force” behind his movie and shared that her involvement in every aspect made it “better.” During his conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Baldoni even mentioned how women on the sets, including Blake, took “charge” allowing him to balance between acting and directing, and taking a “step back” whenever things became too “heavy.”
