What happens in The Killer?

Zee, also known as the Queen of Death, is the protagonist of The Killer, a lethal assassin who operates in the dangerous French underworld. Portrayed by Nathalie Emmanuel, Zee is reputedly precise and lethal in carrying out her targets with ruthless efficiency.

However, when she refuses to execute Jenn (Diana Silvers), an innocent blind girl during a mission she's sent on by her handlers, her life becomes chaotic. Defying the order ignites an explosive chain of events involving criminal gangs, cops and her own past.

Once Zee chooses to save Jenn's life instead of killing her, as ordered, she finds herself at odds with both individuals she has wronged and law enforcers hunting her down.

Her journey through intense action scenes interspersed with strategic confrontations and moments of introspection moves through shifting alliances and powerful enmities in the treacherous world of organized crime.

Involvement from characters like Finn (Sam Worthington), Sey (Omar Sy) and Prince Majeb Bin Faheem (Saïd Taghmaoui) enhances complexity to storylines, adding their own motivations and personal vendettas to Zee’s turbulent path.

Zee’s struggle throughout the film is not only against her external adversaries but also a battle within herself concerning her principles and the consequences of her actions. She confronts the people responsible for intruding into her life, causing a climax that seeks to show whether it's worth taking revenge or not.

The movie ends with an intense climax that makes viewers think about both Zee’s choices and the complexities of retribution.

Who is John Woo, director of The Killer?

John Woo is one of the greatest names in cinema, especially in action movies. Born in Guangzhou, China, in 1946, he moved to Hong Kong at a young age, where he became a part of one of its most colorful and turbulent periods, which shaped his style as a filmmaker.

He borrowed ideas from other famous filmmakers like Akira Kurosawa and Sergio Leone, who had taken him under their wings. They helped develop his own style characterized by balletic gunfights, slow-motion sequences and deep exploration of themes like honor, loyalty and redemption.

Woo started his career in the late 1960s as an assistant director, gradually advancing to making his first full-length feature film The Young Dragons by the mid-1970s. Among his other films are Hard Target, Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II.

His work portrays how action intersects with emotions, enabling him to create internationally recognized pieces of art. With Chow Yun-Fat acting alongside other actors like Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, he made some memorable films like The Killer (1989) originator version of Hard Boiled, among others, becoming one of the few notable directors known for their action-based films.
