Kill is the new Hindi-language action thriller film from India that is winning praise from critics and audiences all around the world. The film is marketed as the most gory film to have ever come out of India and is unlike the traditional Indian action film where the flamboyant heroes possess superhuman strength.
The most intriguing part of the film is that it is almost entirely set on a moving train. The train is being looted by the generational dacoits, led by Beni and his family members, including his maniacal son Fani. While they are looting the train, they are stopped by a duo of special commandos, who are also traveling by the train. Things go from tense to disturbing, to absolutely insane.
Staying true to the action genre, the film has some horrific deaths and gory action sequences. The protagonist, Amrit witnesses his beloved, Tulika and his best friend, Viresh get brutally killed by the dacoits triggering him to go on a killing spree to finish off the antagonists. He does so successfully and manages to get out of the train, though extremely bruised and battered.
The film ends on a slightly ambiguous note, leaving it for the audience to decide if Amrit dies, a realistic ending or survives, a more hopeful one.
Kill is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt and is produced by the Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guneet Monga. The film stars Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Ashish Vidyarthi, Harsh Chhaya, and Tanya Maniktala in prominent roles and was released theatrically on July 5, 2024.
What happens to Tulika?
Tulika, played by Taniya Maniktala, is on the train with her family. Her father Baldeo Singh Thakur is a wealthy transportation business owner, due to which she gets into the radar of Beni, played by Ashish Vidyarthi. Beni is a seasoned dacoit who has been looting trains for over three decades.
Tulika is in a relationship with Amrit Rathod, a special force military commando, but is being forcefully married off to someone else. Amrit decides to take the same train as Tulika and her family all the way to Delhi, so they can together pursue her parents to accept their relationship.
But before their plan can come to fruition, Tulika is brutally stabbed by Beni's maniacal son Fani, played by the famous dancer and host, Raghav Juyal.
Watching Tulika die in front of him in the most gruesome manner unlocks the soldier's beast mode, and he starts killing all the bad guys in the most creative ways possible. The intense action that starts from this point does not end till the final scene of the film.
Viresh Chatwal is killed by Fani
Amrit is being accompanied by his soldier friend Viresh Chatwal, played by Abhishek Chauhan. Both the soldiers decide to take on the bad guys but in a more human way. This basically means they won't kill them, as the soldiers are not allowed to kill a civilian under any circumstances.
However, the film goes into absolute madness after Tulika's death, as Amrit, played by a phenomenal Lakshya Lalwani, goes berzerk on the dacoits and starts killing them using whatever he can find.
The kills involve a lot of stabbing and crushing, something both of them together. The villains in the film are so inhumanly disgusting that watching them die in the most glorious fashion is satisfying. It's like they have killed John Wick's dog and deserve a creative death.
However, things get even worse for Amrit, as the bandits manage to kill his best friend Viresh. This devastates our hero, who loses the love of his life and best friend in one night.
Does Amrit survive the train?
Amrit is not an invincible hero. He gets bruised, beaten, and stabbed throughout the film. However, he manages to create havoc in trains and instill fear in the goons who have been terrorizing the innocent people on trains.
He uses the lighter fluid to burn Beni's face off, after stabbing him. He had been captured by the enemies during this time but to use him as leverage, the bandits stupidly decided to not finish him off.
That decision did not go well as one by one Amrit sliced and diced each one, getting the unfortunate train and its passengers, rid of the unwanted nuisance. However, as the train stops at the next station and the Railway Protection Force gets into action, Amrit sits quietly on a nearby bench. He is bleeding but doesn't show any pain on his face, instead, he sees Tulika in front of him.
The ending of the film is perhaps left ambiguous for the audiences on purpose. Not killing off Amrit would make the film unrealistic, while killing him would be heartbreaking for the viewers. So it's up to the fans to believe whatever they want to believe. This ending has also left the scope for a potential sequel, like The Raid franchise.
The film was released on July 5, 2024, and is currently playing in the theatres. It's a treat for action film lovers.
