Horror producer Jason Blum and The Amazing Spider-Man creator Todd McFarlane have a title to their Spawn movie reboot—King Spawn.

The update has been a long wait for Spawn fans as well as its creator, as the comic book vet has been vocal about his movie plans as early as 2005.

It comes months after MacFarlane promised fans to bring Spawn back to the big screen even if Hollywood doesn't budge, telling Comic Book in January:

"Either I'm gonna give Hollywood the best chance to do it and, if not, I've got plenty of outside investors waiting."

Thankfully for fans, the reboot just got a royal update and, fingers crossed, will be in theaters soon. The duo revealed the new title for the highly anticipated film on social media, a couple of days before the San Diego Comic-Con.

Blum's horror movie company Blumhouse made the reveal via a post on X by sharing a photo of the King Spawn script.

McFarlane, meanwhile, shared the same via his Instagram page. Here's everything to know about King Spawn, which stars God is a Bullet actor Jamie Foxx for the lead role.

Who will be behind the King Spawn movie?

Besides Todd MacFarlane as the creator of the Spawn universe, he was set to direct the reboot, which was first teased for a 2018 release. He could still be at the help of the project? but it's also possible that those plans may have changed.

Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions, which announced its involvement in the project as far back as 2017, will produce the movie. The studio has been behind horror hits Sinister, The Purge: Election Year, Split, M3gan, the Paranormal Activity franchise and Get Out.

The latest title release of the reboot also revealed the names of its writers. Oscar-nominated Scott Silver, who was the screenwriter for Joker and the upcoming reboot Joker: Folie a Deux, was hired to pen the script alongside Matt Mixon and Malcolm Spellman.

Mixon wrote and directed the musical documentary Yesterday Was Everything while Spellman was behind the television series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Who will be in King Spawn?

When King Spawn was still in development, the Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx was cast to portray the titular human-turned Hellspawn Albert Francis "Al" Simmons, aka Spawn, in the reboot.

He famously played electrical engineer Max Dillion, aka the villainous electrical creature Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home, so he's not new in the superhero universe or playing the villain.

That said, there have yet to be any further casting announcements from the creators. However, MacFarlane had teased that the upcoming King Spawn movie will feature more A-listers. He famously told Comic Book in 2023:

"We're bringing on A-list people. Not just one, but multiple A-list people... What they're not going to want is to do a cheap, low-budget movie with all of these big-name people on it."

When is King Spawn going to be released?

The Spawn reboot is slated for a release sometime in 2025, coming after two decades since the creator teased the project and the previous Spawn movie, starring John Leguizamo, came out in 1997.

While the creators haven't shared any specific movie theater release window yet, Jason Blum reaffirmed fans during an interview with Comic Book in September 2023 that the reboot is coming by 2025. He said:

"2025 is when Spawn is going to come out. I stand by that."
