In anticipation of the film's release on April 21, 2000, the official soundtrack for Love and Basketball, titled Love and Basketball: Music From The Motion Picture, was made available on April 18, 2000, through Overbrook Music/Interscope Records.

The soundtrack for Love and Basketball featured 12 tracks that mainly consisted of contemporary R&B songs, along with some hip-hop music.

Included in the soundtrack were tracks such as I'll Go (performed by Donell Jones), Complete Beloved (performed by Black Eyed Peas and Les Nubians), Love and Happiness (performed by Al Green), Sweet Thing (performed by Rufus & Chaka Khan), and Fool of Me (performed by Meshell Ndegeocello). What is the movie about?

Love and Basketball was written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. It was produced by Spike Lee and Sam Kitt. It was marketed under the banner of 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks. Distributed by New Line Cinema, the synopsis for the film reads:

"Quincy McCall and Monica Wright grew up in the same neighborhood and have known each other since childhood. As they grow into adulthood, they fall in love, but they also share another all-consuming passion: basketball."

It continues:

"As Quincy and Monica struggle to make their relationship work, they follow separate career paths though high school and college basketball and, they hope, into stardom in big-league professional ball."
