Mary on Netflix: Everything we know so far
On November 12, 2024, Netflix shared the trailer for the film via their YouTube channel. Since then, viewers have responded favorably, eager to see the birth of Christ on their screens just before Christmas.
The trailer, which lasts two minutes and twenty seconds, features the Virgin with her father, who describes her pregnancy as a miracle since she has been selected to bear the son of God, the Savior, Jesus Christ.
On the other hand, King Herod views the coming of Christ not as a blessing but as a threat. He does not accept the biblical promise that the Messiah would arrive soon to cleanse humanity of its sins. In a moment of anger in the trailer, Herod exclaims:
"What need have we of a Messiah ?
The trailer also shows Herod seeing visions of Christ being crucified, with nails driven into his hands.
Additionally, the teaser depicts Angel Gabriel approaching the Virgin in her dream and informing her that she will have a son, which she believes is impossible. However, the archangel reassures her, saying:
"All things are possible."
Many believe that the Mother of God must have slept with someone and that the kid (she claims to be God's child) must therefore be murdered. However, Joseph stands by Mary and believes in her despite the mystery surrounding her pregnancy. However, due to the King's refusal to accept the miracle, Mary and Joseph are forced to hide until the Savior's birth, as Herod intends to kill the Savior before he is born.
Mary will have a runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes and will be available on Netflix starting December 6, 2024. Audiences interested in watching this film will need a basic Netflix subscription, which costs $6.99/month.
The synopsis of the film as per Netflix reads:
"A miraculous conception. A merciless king. A murderous pursuit. Mary's journey to give birth to Jesus unfolds in this biblical coming-of-age epic."
