Mia Goth returns to star in the third installment of Ti West's artisanal-trash horror X franchise, MaXXXine, which is expected to release in theaters in the US on July 5, 2024.

Adding to A24's 2024 releases in the psychological horror subgenre, the upcoming film brings Goth as Maxine Minx, the same character she played in the first movie of the franchise, X. Previously an adult film star (in X), Maxine has now gotten her big break in Hollywood as an actress. However, her sinister past may prove a hindrance to her way to stardom.

Written and directed by Ti West, the upcoming film also casts Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Halsey, Lily Collins, and more.

When is MaXXXine going to be released?

As mentioned above, moviegoers waiting for Ti West's third movie following X and Pearl can watch the show in US cinemas during its July 5 release.

A24 had previously given an August 9 UK release date. However, there is good news for UK fans who no longer have to wait an extra month to catch the film as its release date has been moved to July 5 as well.

What is MaXXXine all about?

In Ti West's MaXXXine, Mia Goth's titular character has made it to Los Angeles, leaving behind her successful career as an adult filmstar and pursuing stardom in Hollywood. But her big break is not as smooth as she would have liked. Maxine's blood-soaked past is slowly catching up to her, causing havoc in her newfound life under the spotlight.

The film's official synopsis reads:

"In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past."

The events in the upcoming movie follow what happened in X, where Maxine survived a Texas Chainsaw-style massacre and murdered the budding serial killer who was her haunting mirror image, Pearl.

Is there a trailer for MaXXXine?

A24 released the highly awaited MaXXXine official trailer on April 8, followed by a second trailer on June 5, giving viewers an extended look at Maxine's new life in the City of Angels. The trailer begins with Maxine Minx living the life of an up-and-coming actress in Hollywood—auditioning and eventually getting her big break.

The trailer's opening text reads:

"Her dream was to be a star. But Hollywood can be a killer."

Besides returning as the sole survivor of the murder in X, the trailer also revealed that a new mysterious character, a serial killer called "Night Stalker", will bring in further horror to Maxine's journey of becoming a big star in Hollywood.

Another roadblock between her and the Hollywood fame she aspires, is a man from her blood-soaked past: a detective hired by a "very powerful man" to find her.

If the MaXXXine trailer is an indication, then, despite the impending threats looming over her from all ends, Maxine shows no signs of giving up on her dreams of becoming a "f**king movie star."

Watch MaXXXine in theaters on July 5.
