British actor Henry Cavill recently opened up about the prospect of becoming the next James Bond after a fan-made trailer went viral on YouTube on April 13, 2024, that used Cavill and Margot Robbie's likeness to tease Bond 26.
The 40-year-old is currently in the process of promoting his new World War II movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. On April 15, he made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. When the radio host asked if he would be joining the famous franchise, Cavill replied:
"I have no idea. All I've got to go off is the rumors, so it's the same information you have. Maybe I'm too old now, maybe I'm not. We'll see. It's up to Barbra Broccoli and [coproducer] Mike Wilson, so we'll see what their plans are."
The fake trailer was posted YouTube channel KH Studio and has since gained more than 2.7 million views on the streaming platform.
Henry Cavill talks about the James Bond role as fake trailer starring him and Margot Robbie goes viral
Henry Cavill plays the role of Gus March-Phillipps, the real-life leader of the first special forces team in World War II in the upcoming The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare that will be released in the United States on April 19, 2024.
He went on The Rich Eisen Show to promote the action film directed by Guy Ritchie, starring several artists including Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun and more.
During the interview, the host discussed that Gus, Cavill's character, was one of the inspirations for the secret agent, James Bond.
Rich Eisen asked the actor if he would play the next James Bond and Henry Cavill explained that he was not aware of the decision process yet. Daniel Craig ended his five-movie run as the character with 2021's No Time to Die.
Cavill's take on the role comes after KH Studio's YouTube channel posted an AI-generated trailer of him and Margot Robbie in the next 007 movie, Bond 26. The description read:
"Please note that this video is a concept trailer created solely for artistic and entertainment purposes. I have meticulously incorporated various effects, sound design, AI technologies, movie analytics, and other elements to bring my vision to life. Its purpose is purely artistic, aiming to entertain and engage with the YouTube community."
The alleged trailer has generated 2.3 million viewers, and several netizens have responded positively to it. The YouTube channel has been active for over one year and has created dozens of fake movie trailers.
Some of the mentioned pieces included the third Top Gun movie, a new Spider-Man film starring Andrew Garfield, and a fourth Back to the Future movie, and more.
Henry Cavill has spoken about taking a screen test for James Bond before Craig's casting for Casino Royale in 2006. In February 2024, the Superman actor's Argylle director Matthew Vaughn recalled that he knew Henry had almost got the role in a SiriusXM interview. Vaughn told Cavill at that time:
"It got down to the last two for Bond… And I know that the director preferred your audition. But [producer] Barbara [Broccoli] preferred [Craig]. So, just so you know, and they decided you were too young."
Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been the latest artist rumored to be the new top choice for the role.
Tom Hardy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Sam Heughan, Cillian Murphy, Daryl McCormack, Andrew Garfield, and more are also seemingly in the running. Bond 26 is not expected to be released on cinema screens until 2025.
