The trailer for Bong Joon-ho's highly anticipated science fiction black comedy film, Mickey 17, was released on YouTube on September 18, 2024, by Warner Bros. Pictures. As of writing, the preview has been watched more than 3 million times and is trending at number 41 on YouTube.
Starring Robert Pattinson, Mickey 17's trailer takes the audience through the unpredictable life of Mickey Barnes, who volunteers for a unique program that aims to test the limits of the human brain's ability to retain memories through repeated regenerations.
Pattinson's character is keen on leaving Earth and signs up for the program where he is assigned the role of an expendable. However, chaos ensues when one of his new clones doesn't die and the other clone is still around, and they are left to battle each other.
When is Mickey 17 scheduled for release?
Mickey 17 will premiere in South Korea on January 28, 2025. Afterwards, the film will be released theatrically in the United States on January 31, 2025. In 2022, while filming for the movie was still underway, Variety reported that Bong Joon-ho and the others associated with the project were eyeing a 2024 release.
However, the release date for the movie got pushed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that momentarily put Hollywood to a standstill. There were also significant disruptions and delays in the post-production process of the film that further caused the release date to be pushed.

The film is written and directed by Bong Joon-ho, who is known for films like Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), Memories of Murder (2003), and Parasite (2019). The latter of the three earned the filmmaker a Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Award for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Additionally, Parasite also raked in three more accolades at the 2019 Oscars, including awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. The film was also recognized at the Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
