Migration, the family-oriented animated film from Universal Pictures and Illumination, was theatrically released in the USA on December 22, 2023, following its premiere at the VIEW Conference in Turin, Italy, on October 19, 2023. However, thanks to its recent addition to Netflix on August 19, 2024, the 2023 film’s popularity has seen a renewal in the USA.
As of writing, the film is available for streaming on Netflix, Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, and Peacock. The official synopsis of the film reads:
“When their idyllic pond life starts feeling cramped, a family of ducks embarks on a flight full of adventure — and misadventure — bound for Jamaica.”

Migration: Voice cast explored
1) Kumail Nanjiani as Mack Mallard
Mack is the patriarch of the Mallard duck family. He is a conservative senior duck who fears stepping out of their home might bring the family trouble. The character is voiced by the Pakistani-American comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani, known for films like The Big Sick (2017) and the MCU film Eternals (2021), among others.
2) Elizabeth Banks as Pam Mallard
If Mack is the staunch and old-fashioned patriarch in Migration, his wife, Pam, is a free-spirited woman seeking adventures whenever possible. It is she who convinces Mack to get out of their home.
The character is voiced by Elizabeth Banks, who is famous for her roles in films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Invincible (2006), and shows like Modern Family (2009–2020).
3) Caspar Jennings as Dax
Dax is a confident young duckling who is not afraid to express his views. As a result of this, there is some friction between him and his strict father, Mack. However, by the end of the film, they become very close to each other.
Caspar Jennings, who previously appeared in Operation Mincemeat (2021) and the Sing films, voices the character.

4) Tresi Gazal as Gwen
Gwen is Dax’s sister. She is a playful sibling who teases her brother Dax at every available opportunity. The chemistry between Dax and Gwen generates much of the humor of the film. Tresi, the voice behind Gwen, previously starred in the 2023 film Billy Knight alongside Al Pacino.
5) Keegan-Michael Key as Delroy
Delroy is one of the main plot drivers in Migration. As a homesick Jamaican parrot, he is held hostage in a New York restaurant. The Mallard family decides to help Delroy, opening the door to one adventure after the other.
Kay is a veteran voice actor with credits like The Angry Birds Movie (2016) and Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022) under his name. He is best known for the sketch series Key & Peele.
6) Awkwafina as Chump
Chump is a pigeon who heads a local pigeon gang in Manhattan. Chump is an intriguing character, bossy and overbearing at times, but also helpful and caring. Chump is played by Awkwafina, known for her roles in films like Ocean's 8 (2018), Crazy Rich Asians (2018), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), and others.
She has also voiced characters in several other animated films such as Storks (2016), The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019), Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), The Bad Guys (2022), and Kung Fu Panda 4, among others.

7) Carol Kane as Erin
Erin is a great blue heron who comes to the Mallards’ aid when they are stuck in a storm. Mack is initially quite suspicious of Erin, but his doubts are dispelled gradually when he sees that Erin is indeed a helpful friend.
Carol Kane, the famed actress of Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Annie Hall (1977), and When a Stranger Calls (1979), brought the character to life in Migration.
8) Danny DeVito as Uncle Dan
Dan is Mack’s uncle, and like Mack, he is afraid of adventures. When Mack approaches him towards the beginning of Migration for advice, he tells Mack not to allow the journey the family is planning. However, Gwen convinces Uncle Dan to come along.
The character is played by Danny DeVito, famous for films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), Matilda (1996), L.A. Confidential (1997), and others.
Migration: Crew
The film has been directed by Benjamin Renner and Guylo Homsy. While Renner is known for his directorial efforts like Ernest & Celestine (2012) and The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales... (2017), Homsy has worked in the Despicable Me franchise.
The screenplay for the film was written by Mike White, who created the HBO series The White Lotus and previously wrote screenplays for films like Dead Man on Campus (1998), The Emoji Movie (2017), and others. John Powell, known for designing the music of iconic films like Face/Off (1997), and the Bourne franchise has composed the tracks in the film.
The film was produced by Universal Pictures and Illumination, with the former taking charge of the distribution.
