Mothers' Instinct is an American psychological thriller that released on March 8, 2024. It's now available on streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video and YouTube Movies.

Led by Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, the film tells the tale of two mothers whose lives are upended by an accident. The story is based on Barbara Abel's French novel of the same name and is adapted from the French movie Duelles.

The adaptation has been directed by Benoît Delhomme, who is making is debut as a filmmaker. The official summary for Mothers' Instinct reads:

"Alice and Celine live a traditional lifestyle with successful husbands and sons of the same age. Life's perfect harmony is suddenly shattered after a tragic accident. Guilt, suspicion and paranoia combine to unravel their sisterly bond."

1) Jessica Chastain as Alice

Jessica Chastain plays Alice in the film. The character is a mother and next-door neighbour to Celine. But her relationship with her neighbour sours when she fails to reach Celine's son Max in time before an accident occurs.

Chastain is an Academy Award winner who has previously worked on films like The Eyes of Tammy Faye, It Chapter Two and Dark Phoenix. She's also an advocate for feminism in the Hollywood film industry and often campaigns for causes like greater inclusivity on sets and equal pay in the workplace.

2) Anne Hathaway as Celine

Anne Hathaway plays the role of Celine, a bereaved mother. She's shown to slowly lose control over herself after she loses her son Max in an accident. In the process, she gets close to her neighbour Alice's child Theo.

Hathaway's career began with her iconic role as Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries, after which she skyrocketed to fame. She has been a part of various popular films, including The Devil Wears Prada, Through the Looking-Glass, The Dark Knight Rises, Les Misérables and The Idea of You.

3) Anders Danielsen Lie as Simon

Anders Danielsen Lie portrays the character of Simon in the film. He's Alice's husband and gets involved in her struggle with their neighbour Celine.

Lie, a Norwegian physician, has also had various roles in the acting and music industry. He has been a part of films like Handling the Undead, The Night Eats the World and The Worst Person in the World.

4) Josh Charles as Damian

Josh Charles plays the role of Damian, Celine's husband. He works in pharmaceuticals and has a tense relationship with his wife, which becomes apparent during a surprise birthday party that Alice throws for Celine.

Josh made his acting debut with films like Hairspray and Dead Poets Society. He has been acting since 1988. Some of his most prominent works from films and television include Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Good Wife and Framing John DeLorean.

5) Eamon O'Connell as Theo

Eamon O'Connell plays the young child Theo in Mothers' Instinct. He's the son of Alice and Simon but ends up becoming very close to Celine after her son is involved in a fatal accident.

O'Connell, a child actor, has five years of experience playing roles in theatrical productions. Most recently, he played the role of Phil Foss in the 2024 film Darla in Space.

6) Baylen D. Bielitz as Max

Baylen D. Bielitz plays the role of Max in Mothers' Instinct. He's Celine's child but meets with an accident in his own house at the start of the film.

He gained much fame in the film and television industry at the age of five, when he got cast in the role of Billy Maximoff in the Marvel Studios series WandaVision. Bielitz has also worked in films like The Noel Diary and Evil.
