Netflix's The Six Triple Eight is a war drama that captures the arduous task assigned to the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. The first and only Women's Army Corps unit of color, the 855 women posted in the battalion were responsible for sorting 17 million pieces of mail in six months.
The all-black, all-female battalion was tasked with delivering this mail to American soldiers posted abroad. Their letters would serve as a morale booster to American troops that were fighting on various battlefronts on foreign shores.
Based on a true story, the World War II film boasts a star-studded ensemble that includes Kerry Washington, Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, and Shanice Shantay.
The movie was released in selected theaters on December 6, 2024, and is slated to be released on Netflix on December 20, 2024.
Directed by Tyler Perry, The Six Triple Eight was conceived after he read an article in a WWII History Magazine in 2019.
