Salem's Lot, MaXXXine and other Halloween movies to watch this October
1) Hold Your Breath (2024)
The psychological horror film takes audiences back in time to 1930s Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl. It stars Sarah Paulson as a mother trying to desperately protect her family from a sinister presence in the dust that is out to kill them. The film, released in 2024, is directed by Karrie Crouse and Will Joines.
Sarah Paulson is joined by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amiah Miller, Annaleigh Ashford, Alona Jane Robbins, and Bill Heck in supporting roles.
Hold Your Breath premieres on Hulu on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
2) Salem's Lot (2024)
Gary Dauberman's 2024 movie is the first film adaptation of Stephen King's 1975 novel. Previously, the popular novel was adapted into two miniseries that were released in 1979 and 2004.
The film's protagonist, Ben Mears, is an author who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot (or Salem's Lot) in search of inspiration. He soon realizes, to his utter shock, that the townspeople are being turned into vampires by Kurt Barlow. Ben joins other locals in fighting against Barlow and stopping Salem's Lot from literally becoming a ghost town.
Actors such as Lewis Pullman, Pilou Asbæk, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, and William Sadler round off the film's star cast.

3) It's What's Inside (2024)
Greg Jardin's comedy horror film It's What's Inside focuses on a group of college friends getting together for a pre-wedding party. Their night of fun quickly turns deadly after an estranged friend comes up with a bizarre game involving a body-swapping machine.
The film stars Brittany O'Grady, David W. Thompson, James Morosini, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Gavin Leatherwood, Madison Davenport, Nina Bloomgarden, Devon Terrell, Reina Hardesty, among others.
It's What's Inside premieres on Netflix on Friday, October 4, 2024.
4) A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
As far as Halloween movies go, A Quiet Place Part II promises plenty of jump scares and an intense build-up of suspense that sustains till the end. The film's premise of a post-apocalyptic world, where making the faintest of sounds can get you killed by sound-averse aliens, makes it a perfect watch this October.
It is a sequel to 2018's A Quiet Place, and follows Evelyn and her kids as they navigate the dangerous outside world while trying to find other survivors. John Krasinski directed, wrote, co-produced, and starred in the movie. In addition to the original cast of Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, the sequel also features Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou in important roles.

5) MaXXXine (2024)
MaXXXine is the third film in Ti West's film series that includes X and Pearl, both released in 2022. This film, set in 1985, is a direct sequel to X and features Mia Goth as Maxine Minx, an aspiring actress trying to make it big in Hollywood. But the movie has a horror twist as Maxine encounters a serial killer, known as the Night Stalker, who has been terrorizing the residents of Los Angeles in the 1980s.
The horror film is directed, written, produced, and edited by Ti West. Mia Goth stars alongside Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth Debicki, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Moses Sumney, Lily Collins, Michelle Monaghan, and Giancarlo Esposito.
MaXXXine premieres on Max on Friday, October 18, 2024.
