What is known about 28 Years Later?
As of now, the plot details for the upcoming Zombie affair are being kept under wraps. Not much is known about what direction the story will go in, but it is a sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, so fans can expect the sequel to continue that story in some way. The last time the franchise ended on 28 Years Later where the virus got out once more, so that will shape the events of the sequel.
Judging by the trailer, it looks like fans will be following Aaron Taylor-Johnson's currently unnamed protagonist in the film. A kid will join him as well. The film will also star Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer who will have major roles in the movie. In the trailer for 28 Years Later fans get a first glimpse of their characters as they walk through a structure built with bones.
The trailer also suggests that the remaining survivors in the film will be living on an island as they have learned how to co-exist alongside the infected / zombies. The island itself seems to be connected to the mainland through a very narrow pathway of its own. Taylor-Johnson's character can be seen walking down the path and encountering the zombies who make an appearance in the trailer too.
The tagline hints at an evolution of the virus
The tagline for 28 Years Later also hints that the film may be featuring an evolution in the virus. On the poster the tagline reads, "In 28 years, it evolved", and this may be hinting that the rage virus itself may have become even more deadly in some ways. The first glimpses of the zombies in the movie confirm this as they carry an even more disfigured look now.
As of now, Cillian Murphy's Jim is slated to return as well after last being seen in 28 Days Later. However, it's unclear how big of a role he will have in the film. 28 Years Later will also be the first movie of a trilogy and will be followed by 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple which is directed by Nia DaCosta.
