Director Michael Samonski helmed A Quiet Place: Day One, the third installment of the series that began in 2018. Starring Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn, the movie explores the start of the alien invasion in New York.

It is expected to follow the success of its predecessors, with projections of a $40-50 million opening weekend, well above its $67 million budget. It also set a franchise record by earning $6.8 million in Thursday previews.

A Quiet Place: Day One breaks franchise record even before opening weekend

The $6.8 million figure is based on Thursday previews alone, which sets the movie up for a stellar run in the theaters. The strong start is similar to the way the first two movies of the series were received. A Quiet Place had made $50.2 million on the opening weekend, which was after grossing around $4.3 million via previews.

Furthermore, its sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, which came out back in March 2020, made $4.8 million in previews and earned $48 million on the opening weekend. Hence, A Quiet Place: Day One, has effectively broken previous records and boasts of the most impressive opening when it comes to previews thus far.

It has made $6.8 million already, which suggests that it should also be able to lead its predecessors when it comes to the opening weekend gross.

The likes of Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff will be the major focus of the franchise moving forward, moving past the characters of Krasinski and Emily Blunt. That, alongside the direction of Michael Sarnoski, suggests that A Quiet Place series is set to continue its stellar success at the box office, as a movie series.

Of course, early signs suggest that the third iteration is going to be a resounding success in every way possible. The movie currently boasts an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and initial estimations suggest a $40-50 million opening weekend is on the cards. Of course, it will be interesting to see whether the reviews and preview earnings translate to success at the box office as well.
