Steve Harvey, the man who has made the world laugh again and again, is soon going to get a biopic of his own from Objectively Good Media. As per the latest reports, the biopic is in the works and will be titled Seventy-Two. The title refers to the transformative 72-hour period that Harvey had before his career-defining performance at the Apollo Theatre in 1993.
The biopic has been confirmed as the actor has also given out a statement and so has the production. However, this is still far from fruition, as the movie is only in the early development stages and will take a long time before things move forward.
No writer, director or cast members are attached to the project yet. More details are expected to arrive soon.
Seventy-Two: Everything we know so far about the Steve Harvey biopic
While most of the details about Seventy-Two may come much later, we still have an idea about what this movie will deal with. Like many biopics, this will focus on a particular achievement, the legendary performance that set Steve Harvey apart from his competition at Apollo Theatre in 1993.
In these 72 hours, Harvey, who quit his sales job at 26 to pursue comedy, transformed into the comedian that we know today.
The movie is also set to paint a portrait of the artist and his art amid the struggles and challenges he had to overcome to become what he is today. There have been talks of a Steve Harvey biopic before, but none of them materialized before this.
OGM reportedly conceptualized the idea and brought it to Harvey. He was impressed by the script and gave a green light to the project. In the latest statement to Deadline, who also brought forth this news, the 67-year-old comedian said:
"I’ve been reluctant to make a movie about my life for years, until I read the pitch for Seventy-Two. It focuses on one of the most difficult moments in my journey and career, and shows the world that hope is never truly lost. Wait until you see what we do with this."
OGM also gave out a statement:
"Securing the rights to tell this story has been an incredible honor. Steve Harvey’s ability to turn his trials into triumphs is inspiring, and Seventy-Two will showcase the resilience and determination that defined those pivotal days. We look forward to sharing this powerful narrative with audiences worldwide."
The producers of this project will include Mohamed Kheir, Matthew R. Cooper, Harvey, and Thabiti Stephens. More names will be attached to the project soon.
Stay tuned for more updates on this project.
