What is Project Hail Mary about?
Project Hail Mary is an upcoming science fiction film from Amazon MGM Studios, which follows a school teacher Ryland Grace, who embarks on a mission into space to save humanity from a major disaster. However, the first part of the plot follows the scientist waking up on a spacecraft, in a different solar system, light years away from Earth.
He does not remember who he is and slowly pieces clues from the ship to jog his memory and get back on track for his mission. Despite waking up in a strange solar system, entirely cut off from any human contact, Grace meets an odd friend among the stars who becomes an important component in his quest to preserve Earth.
The novel chronologically follows Ryland Grace being contacted by former ESA administrator Eva Stratt, as he recruits him for a mission to save Earth. Ryland Grace was a former microbiologist equipped with the necessary knowledge to save the planet.
The upcoming film is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (known for directing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse). Drew Goddard is writing the script for the upcoming film. He has previously worked on adapting another one of Andy Weir's works (The Martian) for a film.
Huller recently impressed people with her performance in Anatomy of a Fall, which received acclaim for being one of the best films in the Academy Award nominations.
As per Collider, the upcoming film is being shot for IMAX screens to provide an immersive viewing experience. The film is currently scheduled to be released on March 20, 2026.
