Anne Hathaway recently appeared for an interview with V Magazine on April 22, 2024, where she spoke about the latest updates related to The Princess Diaries 3. The third installment was confirmed in November 2022 after going through a long phase of development.
While she was questioned about the upcoming film, the actress replied by saying:
"We're in a good place. That's all I can say. There's nothing to announce yet."
The Get Real star also addressed the possibilities for a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, stating there would probably not be one and that the people involved with the project "love each other" and all of them would like to reunite at some point.
Anne Hathaway credits The Princess Diaries for her successful career: Interview statements explained
Anne Jacqueline Hathaway has had a long list of credits over the years. While her projects have accumulated billions at the box office, the one particular character that gave her the much-needed recognition is Mia Thermopolis, featured in The Princess Diaries films.
In her latest conversation with V Magazine, she described the character as her "first substantial film role" and added:
"I was so generously invited into that process by Garry Marshall; he valued my take on being a teenage girl and elevated me to such a valued status on set that it never occurred to me on other sets that I didn't have that same autonomy, or that same ability to collaborate."
Anne Hathaway continued by saying that she "wanted to be pleasant" and she believed that if she had firm opinions, she was doing her job. Notably, she managed to grab the role of Mia at the age of 17, which led to a successful career that has continued until today.
Grazia Daily UK reported back in 2021 that Anne Hathaway had some experience on television when she was chosen for the first film. The Interstellar star once spoke about her experience working with director Garry Marshall in an interview with Hollywood Foreign Press in 2001.
She said that she was a fan of Marshall's film Pretty Woman, saying that he changed her life. Hathaway revealed that Marshall was confident about her career and told her to value her family members and friends. She continued:
"The other thing he said to me was, 'You never know what's going to be ahead, so you might as well have as much fun as you can, while you're making a movie.' And anybody who's ever worked on a Garry Marshall film will say that he lives that to the fullest."
Anne Hathaway had previously expressed her desire to return as Mia Thermopolis
A month before the sequel was announced in 2022, the New York City native told Entertainment Tonight that she was ready to share the screen with Julie Andrews again. She said that she is "pulling for it" and continued:
"If there's any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen."
Back in 2019, Anne Hathaway opened up on the third film when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. She said at the time that there was a script and the cast and crew were working to bring a perfect sequel.
Notably, the first two films were able to pull a lot of audiences to the big screen despite getting mixed reactions from critics.
