Following the release of Baby Reindeer, its creator and lead actor, Richard Gadd, faced multiple controversies. However, the actor-director is focusing on a new project, a short film titled Truth Serum. The film is set to be released on June 17, 2024. The short film distributor, Omeleto, announced the film's premiere via a trailer on YouTube on May 29, 2024.
Richard Gadd based the Netflix show, Baby Reindeer, on certain events from his own life, which brought up a lot of controversies. Most of the controversy surrounded the inclusion of the character Martha Scott (Jennifer Gunning), who was allegedly based on Fiona Harvey. She made an appearance on Piers Morgan's show, where she alleged that Gadd had based the character on her.
However, it is worth noting that when the series was released, Gadd had tried to keep the identity of his alleged stalker hidden. He had also requested that his fans stop trying to find the woman.
Richard Gadd’s Truth Serum gets premiere date in the wake of Baby Reindeer controversy
Richard Gadd's upcoming short film, Truth Serum, was acquired by Omeleto earlier in 2024. It is a dark comedy that centers around a tea party where the guests unknowingly consume a drug and are forced to reveal their deepest, darkest secrets. The movie will premiere on the Omeleto YouTube channel, which is popular amongst short-film enthusiasts and regularly features exclusive content.
The film is directed by Vika Evdokimenko, and Richard plays the role of Jimi. Olivier Shuster, Timothy Evans, and Franklin Fogg have written the screenplay.
“When guests at a housewarming party ingest a mysterious drug, ugly truths start to emerge wreaking absolute chaos and threatening the relationships of a group of old friends,” the synopsis of the film states.
However, no additional information about the film's story or the exact plot is available. Richard plays the role of a good-for-nothing man who engages in a series of self-destructive behaviors. He also loathes himself due to a rather ominous secret. The concept does share similarities with the narration of Baby Reindeer.
The movie will see Richard's character connect with other guests at the party, which has several familiar faces. These include Olivia Vinall, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Umi Myers, and Danny Ashok.
Although the film's director, Vika Evdokimenko, is still in the initial stages of their career, they have been mentored by filmmakers like Spike Lee and Rebecca Miller.
The interesting concept of the Truth Serum has fans excited about its release. Additionally, for Richard, the short film represents a quick departure from the controversies surrounding Baby Reindeer.
Truth Serum will premiere on Omeleto on June 17, 2024.
