Ballerina drops first teaser, announces trailer release date for the John Wick spinoff

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina had been quiet for some time before today, which left many fans wondering what happened to the Ana de Armas starter. But earlier today, Lionsgate finally dropped a teaser video, which also confirmed that the trailer release is also almost here.

As per the latest teaser, which does not explicitly feature any notable scene or sequence from the upcoming spinoff movie, the trailer will drop on September 26, 2024, giving fans the first glimpse into the new movie, which will further expand the John Wick universe.

This teaser did not feature any character but the full trailer tomorrow should do that honor as well. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina was originally scheduled for a release this year but was later pushed to the next year for some additional shooting.

The spinoff is now set to release on June 6, 2025.

What is From the World of John Wick: Ballerina all about?

Sandwiched between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, which also served as the final chapter of the story for Keanu Reeves' titular character, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is a spinoff movie starring Ana de Armas in the lead role.

The movie follows Rooney (Armas) as she hunts down those who murdered her family. As it is set before the conclusive events of the fourth film, it will also feature Keanu Reeves as John Wick in the story. This could also be the final time the actor will appear in the iconic role.

The movie is also set to star Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane, besides Armas and Reeves.

While not much is known about the plot except the timeline, it is understandable why the movie is set in this timeframe. Ian McShane also discussed this earlier with Collider, saying:

"This one is set in between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, because Keanu is in it, too,...You didn't want to set it after John Wick 4, because then you'd have social media saying, 'Oh, so he's still alive! What's he going to do next time? Is there a John Wick 5?!' This way, you can still keep up the pretense that there might not be a John Wick 5."

When this movie started production in its early days, many fans envisioned this as the fifth John Wick movie, but despite all the rumors, Keanu Reeves' character will not return in the future as per the production. It would also diminish the meaningful ending of the fourth movie in the franchise, which is widely considered by many as the finest of the lot.

However, Ballerina is surely bringing John Wick back for one last dance and it may be visible in the trailer tomorrow too.
