With the DCU up and running with Creature Commandos, we have also gotten our first glimpse at Gotham City's savior, Batman, in the latest episode of the show. Meanwhile, with the delay of Robert Pattinson-led The Batman 2, there have also been rumors about the Matt Reeves movie making it to the DCU.

However, after the animated take on the famed superhero in Creature Commandos, the DCU chief, James Gunn, has confirmed his plans for introducing the iconic character saying that Bruce Wayne will not have an origin story in the DCU, an approach we have seen for some characters like the Hulk in the MCU.

Instead, the Caped Crusader will simply exist in the same universe as Gunn's upcoming Superman, which is now expected to overwrite all the failures from the studio in the past.

Gunn discussed this in a DCU Brief on X, where the director talked about his refusal to commit a lot of screentime to the character in Creature Commandos and omitting the origin story of the character whenever he is finally introduced in the DCU.

What did James Gunn say about Batman in the DCU?

Gunn opened up about the famed DC character as he discussed Creature Commandos in a video posted by DCU Brief on X. He said in the video that Superman and Batman, whose stories have been told multiple times in comics, literature, and films & shows before, do not exactly need a separate origin story.

James Gunn expanded on the character:

"When they first gave it to me (the first episode of Creature Commandos), we saw a lot more Batman. And I was saying, 'I am not ready to commit to that, I am not ready to commit to that!'. So, I was like... more silhouette, silhouette..."

As most fans know, silhouettes have historically been a way of representing the Caped Crusader. He continued:

"And I think it's a great way to show that Batman does exist, he already existed in the universe. We come to the Superman movie, we see that Superman already exists. He is already known by the people of Metropolis. So, yes. We do not need the origin story again. So, that is just the way to introduce that Batman is a part of the universe. He is an important part of the universe and he has an impact on it."

So, with subtlety and poise, the DCU has technically already introduced the famous character, but it has not yet shown Bruce Wayne or his dark alter-ego in any form that could be a problem in the DCU's continuity.

It is still unclear whether Robert Pattinson would indeed become a part of the DCU or if there would be someone new, like David Corenswet for Superman, would be taking on this iconic role.

More details about the developments in the DCU are expected to arrive soon. Stay tuned.
