After a long wait for an update on The Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation from Nintendo, we finally have a piece of news, which doesn't really seem like one at this point. Nintendo revealed that they are moving forward with The Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation, but have only announced that the movie will drop before 2030.
This rather broad timeline of the movie's release was met with skepticism and disappointment from fans, who were expecting to see the movie much sooner. Right after this announcement, social media sites like X exploded with fan reaction, with many claiming that this update was unnecessary as the movie is still so far away.
X user @unbridldUnbound summed up the emotion, saying:
"Can you remind me in like 2030"
Other fans also felt similarly about the situation and expressed the same on X.
"Before 2030..... If it's that far from now, then we don't really need to hear about it right now" - another user noted.
"Is that still a year where we supposedly own nothing and be happy about it? Because I'm sensing a total 180 here" - another added.
"I’ll probably have grandchildren by then" - another fan added sarcastically.
"Read the room bro this species is NOT making it to 2030 💀 "- yet another fan said.
It seems that most fans aren't taking this development as anything particularly exciting.
Why the announcement about The Legend of Zelda left fans disappointed
It was revealed earlier today that there would be some update about The Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation, which already has a huge fanbase across the world, leading to many excited fans. However, when the announcement came, it was far from anything anyone was expecting.
With practically no other information about the development of the live-action adaptation, Nintendo simply revealed that the movie will be released before 2030. As this is only November 2024, it could mean that the movie is more than five years away.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said about the Zelda adaptation:
"Looking ahead, we are creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., set for theatrical release in April 2026. Additionally, we are planning and developing a live-action film of The Legend of Zelda."
That led to the enraged reactions on social media platforms.
While it confirms that the movie is indeed going to be made, it's still far from fruition and fans will perhaps have to wait much, much longer to see any real development in the project.
The movie was first announced a year ago, which led fans to believe that there would be some tangible updates today, but it was to no avail.
Hopefully, more updates about this The Legend of Zelda movie will arrive soon. Stay tuned for updates.
