The final film in the mainline series of the famed Conjuring franchise, Conjuring 4, has finally gotten an interesting update from the production. The fourth and last movie in the primary line of the franchise has received a fall 2025 release date, as per various publications. The movie will premiere on September 5, 2025.
Warner Brothers announced this earlier today, along with an announcement about The Bride, Maggie Gyllenhaal's Frankenstein adaptation. It will now premiere in the last week of September instead of the first week of October, making it a packed month for WB.
There have been several rumored titles for Conjuring 4, including Conjuring: The Last Rites, but nothing has been confirmed yet. We are also yet to get an update on when the production starts and who will be in the cast.
Conjuring 4 will bring a decades-long saga to an end
Conjuring is arguably one of the most popular movie franchises in recent years. In fact, it was one of the first mainstream franchises of the last decade. The movie also branched out in several directions to include spinoffs and origin stories of some of the prominent characters in the franchise, like the Nun and the Anabelle doll.
The franchise kicked off with the highly acclaimed 2013 movie, The Conjuring, which was directed by James Wan and produced by Peter Safran. The movie went on to become one of the most successful horror films of all time and earned a whopping $319.5 million.
It also introduced viewers to Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's Ed and Lorraine Warren, the supernatural investigators who have linked the different movies together.
The success of The Conjuring led to two sequels, The Conjuring 2 (2016), and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). But the franchise, known as the Conjuring Universe, went much beyond this with a total of eight films so far, which have grossed $2.1 billion against a combined budget of $208 million, making it one of the most successful horror franchises of all time.
With the upcoming fourth movie, the main franchise is going to conclude its run. Conjuring 4 may also bring the Warrens' story to an end, but this does not ensure that the Conjuring Universe will stop adding more movies to the list.
The original mainline series of Conjuring movies have all been based on true incidents and reported ghost sightings. This includes the case of the Enfield poltergeist and the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson. The spinoff series Anabelle is also based on a real doll with a haunting history.
Conjuring 4 is also expected to follow along the same lines and adapt a real-life incident on-screen. We are yet to know which story they would go for.
More details about Conjuring 4 are expected to drop soon. Stay tuned for updates.
