Daniel Day-Lewis, 67, retired from acting in 2017 after winning every imaginable award back in his career, which kickstarted in 1971. Over the years, he earned three Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards. Further, the ‘former’ actor even received a knighthood in 2014 for his contributions to the industry, and is one of the clear legends of the industry.
And while fans all over the world might miss seeing him on the big screen, things might be about to change once again. The actor was recently spotted on the sets of Avelyn in Manchester, alongside another industry veteran, Sean Bean.
And while no official confirmation of the same has been forthcoming, the aforementioned news could mean Daniel Day-Lewis is indeed set to make a fairytale return.
Daniel Day-Lewis seen riding a motorcycle on the sets of Avelyn
Not much is known about Avelyn thus far. According to Deadline, the movie is set in the 1980s and focuses on Sean Bean’s character. While Bean’s character is an ex-soldier, not much is known about the plot of the movie.
According to Deadline, Daniel Day-Lewis was seen riding a motorcycle with Sean Bean. He wore an olive green bomber jacket, black pants, brown boots, and black gloves, and had a white safety helmet on along with gold eyeglasses.
Further, Day-Lewis was also seen sporting a gray beard, which is a stark departure from the recent clean-shaven look he has sported in public appearances.
The movie itself is set in the 1980s, and nothing is known as of yet about Lewis’ role as well. Regardless, the potential appearance comes after a permanent retirement which the actor announced in 2017. Daniel Day-Lewis was last seen in 2017’s Phantom Thread, in which he played the role of Reynolds Woodcock.
However, in an interview, according to Deadline, Day-Lewis had stated that his retirement in itself was abrupt:
"I didn’t even know I was going to stop acting."
Further, the actor stated that he did not want to watch his final movie as part of the ‘closure’ he wanted. The announcement itself had been made on behalf of the actor by his publicist. In June 2017, his publicist had claimed the following:
"Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years."
Further, while the actor had retired from his own craft, he still wanted to work in the industry. According to Deadline, Day-Lewis was known to have undertaken multiple meetings related to project production.
However, these meetings did not come to fruition and the actor remained away from Hollywood since 2017. Now, however, things are set to change, and the actor can be expected to play an integral role in Avelyn.
There is little doubt that at the age of 67, Day-Lewis already has one of the most impressive portfolios in Hollywood. However, his fans will be delighted that they might see him act once again.
