Exploring Clayface's origins in the comic books
There are various interpretations of Clayface throughout comic books, however, the most popular version is that of Basil Karlo. The character was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane in June 1940 and first appeared in Detective Comics #40. He was an actor who could change the shape of his face. However, through the years he was reinvented to be a giant mud monster who could shapeshift.
In the comics, Basil Karlo was the son of Vincent Karlo who used to make cosmetics for films. He also used to make Renu, which was a putty that could mold into any shape. However, Vincent lost his job after it was discovered that Renu was toxic to human skin. Years later, Basil grew up to be a successful actor, known for his good looks and quick success.
Unfortunately, he got into an accident one day after learning of his father's death and had his face disfigured. He then started abusing Renu to make sure that he could still preserve his good looks but inevitably ran out of supply for it. Following this he planned to steal chemicals to make more of it but was arrested by Batman. However, he was still obsessed with preserving his good looks.
When he attempted another attempt to get the chemicals, the police opened fire at him, causing him to be doused in them. This led him to become the monster known as Clayface. He can shapeshift into anyone he wants and also can be a powerful monster in his own right. He has gone toe-to-toe with Batman on many occasions.
Clayface is set to appear in Creature Commandos
However, before Clayface gets his own film, the character is set to appear soon in Creature Commandos. The DC animated series is the official start of a brand-new DC continuity under which all films, shows, and video games will be set. In Creature Commandos, the monstrous villain will be voiced by actor Alan Tudyk who has voiced the character previously in Harley Quinn as well.
However, it's not necessary that Tudyk will return to portray the role in live-action as well. Currently, plot details about the movie are being kept under wraps. For further updates on the project, stay tuned with us.
