Deadpool & Wolverine final trailer confirms one key character from X-Men franchise

MarvelbStudios has dropped the final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, which has brought fans a pleasant surprise. The studio has confirmed with the trailer that a new character, Lady Deadpool, is coming in for the upcoming movie of the Marvel franchise, along with another bigger surprise- the return of X-23!

Fans could not have anticipated the return of Dafne Keen, who had previously played the child mutant X-23 opposite Hugh Jackman in 2017’s Logan, from the X-Men franchise.

Deadpool & Wolverine is debuting in theaters in less than a week, and the surprise that Marvel revealed has fans more excited than ever.

Deadpool & Wolverine final trailer confirms the return of Dafne Keen's X-23

The news of Dafne Keen returning for Deadpool & Wolverine comes as a huge surprise. That's because actor Keen has been telling the press during her rounds for the promotion of The Acolyte that she would not be appearing in the movie.

Expressing her sadness on not being able to reunite with Hugh Jackman, she told On Demand Entertainment:

“Of course it’s sad. I love Hugh and creatively, I love Ryan (Reynolds), and I love Shawn (Levy). ...

"I’m really excited to see what they’ve made. I think Shawn is one of the best directors out there right now. Obviously, Ryan’s a legend. It would have been amazing to be part of it, but I’ll just go watch it as a fan, to see my old buddy in it.”

Once the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer debuted online, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly Keen opened up about returning as X-23.

Talking about misdirecting the press, she said that the inspiration came from Andrew Garfield who always lied about returning as Spider-Man before the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Daphne Keen also shared that she's excited beyond words when her agent called with news that she was asked to reprise her role as X-23:

“I dropped my phone in the bath. I had to put it in rice; it was a whole thing. I was a bit freaked out. I was like, ‘I will have forgotten how to play her. She’s not in me anymore.'”

For the actor, shooting for Deadpool & Wolverine felt like shooting for Logan and it hardly appeared that eight years have passed since X-Men's Logan was filmed.

Dafne Keen played X-23, aka Laura, who is Wolverine's "daughter" in Logan (2017), or more technically, she's his clone.

Fans were in for a pleasant surprise when at 1:29 timestamp of the latest trailer, Dafne Keen appears. She's seen responding to Jackman's Wolverine, who tells her around a campfire:

"Whoever you think I am, you've got the wrong guy."

Keen, who plays X-23, responds:

"You were always the wrong guy, until you weren't."

Alongside X-23, Deadpool & Wolverine's final trailer also revealed the appearance of Lady Deadpool. There's a lot of speculation regarding who is behind the mask, but the studio is keeping it a secret for the moment. The Marvel movie is coming to theaters on July 26, 2024.
