Deadpool & Wolverine, the MCU savior anticipated to be a massive hit for Marvel didn’t fail any of the industry insider predictions. Deadpool and Wolverine had the highest R-rated opening of all time. It has collected a massive $310.1 million in domestic box offices and $590.5 million worldwide as reported by Deadline on August 1, 2024.
The film has already surpassed the $600 million mark on Thursday, August 1, 2024, and is now set to become the film of the year.
There was another record the movie has broken, according to the New York Post, Deadpool & Wolverine is also the first R-rated film for the MCU which has over 100 F-Bombs.
Comparing F-Bombs in the three Deadpool films
Since the first movie of the Deadpool franchise, the makers and the creatives have not disappointed the fans while showing the extreme gore and language that the comic book character is famous for.
God’s perfect idiot Deadpool being an A-rated superhero has always been a raunchier character known for his explicit slurring, his sarcasm, and breaking the fourth wall. Being a bad guy who gets paid to mess with the worst, Deadpool is the perfect hero.
Since Disney acquired Fox Studios back in 2019, the fans of the character have always been troubled in thinking that Disney would choose to make a PG-13 Deadpool sequel, which would rob the true essence of the character.
However, Deadpool & Wolverine have used the f-word 118 times in total, making it the first film of the Deadpool universe to even break the cursing records apart from the major box office records. Deadpool 2 (2018), directed by David Leitch and starring Ryan Reynolds, comes next with 90 curses in total followed by Deadpool (2016), directed by Tim Miller, which used the F-word 84 times.
Why is Deadpool & Wolverine breaking major box office records?
Being the only MCU film this year, Deadpool & Wolverine with good marketing has broken major box office records. With two of the most popular superheroes together on screen and being a multiverse verse film with tons of cameos, Shawny Levy has not failed to amaze viewers worldwide.
Fans also had the urgency to see this film so that nothing gets spoiled. The stardom of Reynolds and Jackman also played an immense role in the film's success, garnering fans worldwide.
All said and done, Deadpool & Wolverine directed by Shawn Levy used the R-rated language in the movie in the most perfect way where the F-bombs and the slurring did not feel forced by any of the characters that were using them.
The gore and the violence along with the language shown in the movie is something that gives fans a lot of hope from Disney Studios. Director Shawn Levy during the press tour for the movie emphasized how shocked he was regarding Disney and Marvel’s openness to making this movie more authentic. He explained the following by saying :
“I was thrilled by Marvel's lack of boundaries.”
