The brand new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine just dropped online and teased a grand multiversal adventure between the iconic X-Men duo. Featuring Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson as he enlists Hugh Jackman's angry Canadian mutant, the film will see the two unite together for the first time on the big screen.
While fans were confused about exactly how Hugh Jackman's Wolverine would fit in Deadpool & Wolverine, the new trailer has given us some clarity on what the main conflict behind this version of the character is. The trailer teases a redemption arc for Jackman's X-Men character as it is revealed that he let down his entire world, and Wade will give him the chance to do something right again.
Deadpool & Wolverine sees the iconic duo team up to fight Cassandra Nova
The trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine begins with Logan in a bar being shunned by the bartender for not being allowed in there, and then Deadpool approaches him. Wade asks Logan to come with him, but he disagrees, which prompts the Merc With a Mouth to pull out his gun and point it at his head. To which Logan smiles.
The trailer then takes the viewers into a more action-packed scenario where they see the titular characters walking into the frame in their superhero suits. The trailer cuts to Wade asking Wolverine to help him save his world, and here is where it is revealed that this Wolverine let his world down, which might have just hinted at the fact that this is an alternate version of the character and not the same one from the 20th Century Fox X-Men films.
Deadpool & Wolverine also gives us our first proper look at Emma Corrin's Cassandra Nova, who will be the antagonist of the film. In the comics, Cassandra is the twin sister of Charles Xavier, who was seemingly killed by her brother in the womb, which would cause her mother to have a miscarriage. Surprisingly, after surviving the whole ordeal after being presumed dead, Cassandra grew up to have a hatred for her brother.
In the trailer, she can be seen residing in a giant Ant-Man skull and also shares a brief moment with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, where she uses her telekinesis powers on him.
Deadpool & Wolverine trailer features new cameos
While the previous trailer for the film featured Aaron Stanford returning as Pyro, the new trailer also features new X-Men cameos. Lady Deathstrike from X2 and Azazel from X-Men: First Class return for this film, but it is unclear whether Kelly Hu and Jason Flemyng are returning to portray the characters from the respective films.
The trailer also features many other Marvel Cinematic Universe Easter eggs as well, including the car Tony Stark was working on in the original Iron Man and a Doctor Strange portal alongside the giant Ant-Man head that is being used as a base by Cassandra Nova. One thing is for sure: the Ryan Reynolds-starrer won't be pulling back on the Marvel references.
Deadpool & Wolverine releases in theaters on July 26.
