In a post on Instagram Threads, Superman director James Gunn confirmed that David Corenswet had auditioned for a role in his previous project.
When asked about whether Corenswet auditioned for Adam Warlock from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol .3, Gunn responded on April 21, 2024:
"I asked him about it and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it."
Unfortunately, he did not end up being cast in the role of Adam Warlock, and actor Will Poulter was chosen in his place to portray Marvel's Golden God.

For the unversed, Corenswet is set to don the cape as the Man of Steel in James Gunn's Superman in 2025.
James Gunn reveals David Corenswet auditioned for Adam Warlock before being cast as Superman
James Gunn is quite active on Threads and regularly interacts with fans online. In his latest post, he shared information about David Corenswet's audition for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The DC Studios president was even asked about whether the flying VFX in Superman would be similar to how it was portrayed for Adam Warlock. To this question, he replied that the VFX for the flying scenes in the upcoming film is even more "complex" than what was done for Will Poulter's character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He stated:
"And no what we’re doing now for flying is much more complex than what was done for (Adam Warlock)."
Exploring the cast of 2025 film Superman
In Superman, David Corenswet will be joined by actress Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, his love interest. Nicholas Hoult will appear as Lex Luthor, the iconic DC superhero's arch-nemesis. Meanwhile, Skyler Gisondo will also feature in the film as Jimmy Olsen.
However, the James Gunn-directed movie will consist of other superheroes as well like Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho and María Gabriel de Faría as The Engineer.
Moreover, Wendell Pierce will play Perry White in the project. Recently, Pruitt Taylor-Vince and Neva Howell were also cast as Jonathan Kent and Martha Kent. Milly Alcock's Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El is rumored to appear in the film too.
Filming for the movie began on February 29, and it was revealed then that the logo for the Man of Steel was inspired by the Kingdom Come logo that was created by Alex Ross for Mark Waid's comic. The film is also set to launch a new era of DC films under the leadership of director James Gunn.
The David Corenswet-starrer Superman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 11, 2025.
