Elizabeth Olsen says she’s ready to reprise her role as Scarlet Witch in the MCU if it is done right

Elizabeth Olsen recently shared that she's down to playing Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, again if the makers can find a "good way to use" the character in another MCU film.

The actress joined her His Three Daughters co-star, Carrie Coon, in an interview with FM104 on September 8, 2024. During the conversation, Olsen opened up about donning the Scarlet Witch's cape, saying:

"It's a character that I love going back to when there's a good way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well."

Talking about what it would take for her to go back and play the Marvel character again, she explained:

"I think people didn't know what to do with me for a second there...if there's a good way to use her I'm always happy to come back."

For the unversed, Elizabeth Olsen has played the Scarlet Witch in several MCU movies, including the 2022 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, the actress has been absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since then.

Besides Marvel movies, Elizabeth Olsen has portrayed the MCU hero Scarlet Witch in the Disney+ series titled WandaVision (2021). She told Harper's Bazaar UK on September 6, 2024, that the show was a "career curveball" for her. Olsen explained that no one forced her to do the series.

She elaborated that she "made a choice" to continue working with Marvel and that the makers also wished to continue working with her. However, the actress admitted that she was initially scared of doing it. She said:

"I was really scared about doing a Marvel project for TV, because these are otherworldly, larger-than-life characters that are seen in films, and I didn't know if it would still work on a television at home."

However, the actress explained that she also had confidence in the format as she thought the "storytelling really honored the TV medium." Elsewhere in the Harper's Bazaar feature, Elizabeth Olsen discussed the positive reception the series received. She said:

"We really felt we were Marvel's weird cousin. We didn't know it was going to have such a response. It came out during pandemic and it almost had way more relevance to everyone's lives."

His Three Daughters is set to hit Netflix shelves on September 20. Elizabeth Olsen plays Christina, one of the titular daughters in the emotional drama. She stars alongside Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne. It is a trio of estranged sisters who come together to help take care of their sick father, but not before tension and past issues arise between them.

The MCU actress told Harper's Bazaar that she took the role because she thought "the project had a life beyond the words in a page." She also talked about working with Coon and Lyonne, which she said was an "intense experience."

As for the upcoming film, she explained that it's "very relatable for anyone with siblings." She added that the three sisters and their dynamics "become more complicated" as their story unravels.
