A tweet about Armie Hammer reportedly unfollowing Timothée Chalamet has gone viral, receiving over 4.5 million views in less than 24 hours.

The post was originally uploaded by an account called @timotheenation, which claimed that Hammer had unfollowed the Wonka actor on Instagram. Another user, with the username @chlmtslut, reshared the tweet, captioning it: "HE'S FREE"

According to the tweets, Armie Hammer, who follows 547 accounts on the platform, is currently not following Chalamet. Meanwhile, the Dune actor follows zero accounts on Instagram, with 19.3 million users following him.

Netizens are reacting to the news, with many referencing the 2017 movie in which they starred together. One netizen wrote:

"Forget calling him altogether now, let alone calling him by your name."

Some users expressed their relief about there being no chances of a sequel to the 2017 movie being in the making.

"Thank god we are not having a sequel," commented an X user.
"i know armie is mad as hell about all the success timmy’s been having," added a second one.
"Yikes, yeah, definitely don’t want that kind of energy within! Not today, not ever," posted a third user.

Meanwhile, others suggested that Hammer's decision to unfollow Timothée could be a generalized act, with the Wounds actor unfollowing everyone who wasn't following him back on Instagram.

"Probably unfollowed those that weren’t following him," replied a fourth user.
"Armie Hammer probably asked Timothee to appear on his podcast," wrote a fifth one.
"Ppl still calling him a cannibal like he isn't a r*pist w multiple accusations," added a sixth one.

For the unversed, Armie Hammer was involved in a scandal following his divorce in 2021, when an Instagram user claiming to be his ex-girlfriend uploaded screenshots of DMs highlighting his abusive and cannibalistic fantasies.

Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet starred in the 2017 romance, Call Me By Your Name

In 2017, Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet starred in a romantic drama called Call Me By Your Name, based on Andre Aciman's namesake 2007 novel. The film became a commercial and critical success, grossing $43.1 million at the box office.

In the movie, Chalamet plays Elio Perlman, a 17-year-old French boy, while Hammer portrays Oliver, a 24-year-old graduate student from America. They first meet when Elio's father - who is also Oliver's professor - invites Oliver to France for the summer holidays to assist with academic paperwork. Over the holidays, the two grow close, leading Elio to confess his feelings for Oliver.

In October 2018, when Variety approached Hammer to write about his co-star's rise to stardom, the older actor wrote:

"It felt like his metamorphosis from a young, quirky and beautiful boy (pardon the pun) to a savvy, self-possessed and in-demand leading man happened before all of our eyes. But I still don’t know if it was Timmy who was reborn or if it was a matter of us coming to realize exactly who he is and what he is capable of."

Armie Hammer abuse and cannibalism allegations began in 2021

The online reactions regarding Armie Hammer's accusations of assault and cannibalism stem from a controversy that began two years ago. It all started when Hammer announced his divorce from his wife of ten years, Elizabeth Chambers, in July 2020.

Over six months later, in January 2021, Effie Angelova claimed on Instagram that she had an affair with Hammer for four years. She claimed he sent her graphic texts about cannibalism, r*pe fantasies, and his desire to drink her blood. Her claims were accompanied by a collection of screenshots showing DMs sent from the Entourage actor's Instagram account.

A day after the screenshots went viral, Armie voluntarily exited the sets of Jennifer Lopez-starrer Shotgun Wedding. He stated that he didn't want to leave his children alone amidst the "vicious and spurious online attacks" against him, as reported by Vulture on December 4.

A few days later, more screenshots began to circulate online - this time from Armie Hammer's secondary Instagram account. The screenshot included pictures of women in bondage. On January 25, 2021, Paige Lorenze, an ex-girlfriend of the actor, told Page Six that he allegedly branded her, bruised her, s*xually coerced her, and took graphic pictures of her without consent. Hammer's lawyer denied the allegations at the time.

In September 2022, Discovery+ released a docuseries about Armie Hammer titled House of Hammer, detailing his relationships and family dynasty.
