Jamie Lee Curtis, the Oscar-winning actress known for her roles in Halloween and Everything Everywhere All at Once, has exited X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Curtis announced her departure on November 13 via Instagram, sharing a message with her followers. Accompanying a screenshot confirming the deactivation of her X account, Curtis quoted the serenity prayer:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference."
While she did not provide a specific reason for leaving, her post suggests a desire for a peaceful shift away from the platform’s often turbulent environment.
Jamie Lee Curtis joins the growing list of people stepping away from X
Jamie Lee Curtis’s decision comes amid a wave of notable organizations and figures also stepping back from X, citing rising concerns over the platform’s tone and content. Recently, The Guardian, a leading British publication, announced it would no longer actively post on X. The Guardian joined a growing list of media outlets concerned about what is described as "often disturbing content" promoted on the platform.
In its official statement, The Guardian pointed to far-right conspiracy theories, racism, and the overall toxicity amplified on the platform, adding that X's influence is shaping an increasingly divisive digital landscape.
"We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives," the publication argued.
Jamie Lee Curtis used to engage her followers on issues spanning political discourse, social justice, and her film career. Her exit from X is especially notable given her recent posts addressing concerns surrounding American politics. Following Donald Trump’s re-election and victory over Kamala Harris, Curtis expressed her fears on social media, stating that many communities could face setbacks.
"Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied," Jamie Lee Curtis wrote, highlighting her concerns for women’s reproductive rights and protections for LGBTQ+ groups. She added a personal call to action, writing, "We wake up and fight…That’s what it has always meant to be an American."
Other prominent figures have taken similar steps, distancing themselves from X amid their growing dissatisfaction with the platform’s direction under Elon Musk, who assumed its ownership in 2022.
In December 2022, singer Elton John made headlines by leaving X, criticizing the platform's approach to misinformation. He cited X’s policy changes, which he argued allowed unchecked misinformation to thrive, as his reason for departing.
In a July post, Jamie Lee Curtis shared a simple message, "Note to self: Be kind, be kind; be kind," which she tied to her experience on FX and Hulu’s series The Bear. "KINDNESS IS MINE!" she wrote, underscoring her values and commitment to promoting kindness amid an often hostile environment.
Beyond her advocacy on social media, Jamie Lee Curtis remains active in promoting her business, My Hand in Yours, which features creative, compassion-driven products, with proceeds supporting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. On November 6, she highlighted her shop’s mission, expressing the importance of unity and mutual support in a heartfelt Instagram post.
"Our Mission is to bring people together to express our shared values and become a powerful source for change," she wrote, urging her followers to support those in need.
Jamie Lee Curtis will be seen in her highly anticipated movie Freakier Friday, the upcoming 2025 sequel to Freaky Friday.
