Harrison Ford is finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in next year's highly anticipated film Captain America: Brave New World. During an interview with GQ magazine on October 14, 2024, the Indiana Jones star explained his venture to the superhero universe.

Ford said that it would be "silly" to pass the chance to work on a Marvel project when it's something that moviegoers flock to in movie theaters for years now. He added:

"I understand the appeal of other kinds of films besides the kind we made in the '80s and '90s. I don't have anything general to say about it. It's the condition our condition is in. And things change and morph and go on. We are silly if we sit around regretting the change and don't participate."

The veteran movie star also talked about the part of the MCU that helped convince him to join, saying:

"I'm participating in a new part of business that, for me at least, I think is really producing some good experiences for an audience. I enjoy that."

For the unversed, 82-year-old Harrison Ford has been cast to play Thaddeus Ross, aka Thunderbolt, aka Red Hulk, in the upcoming Captain America installment. MCU officially revealed Ford's Red Hulk character to fans during its 85th-anniversary video shared on YouTube in August 2024.

Harrison Ford thinks that it's "rubbish" to think that superhero movies are the death of movie stars

Some big names in the movie industry have criticized superhero movies. One of them is Quentin Tarantino, who previously claimed that the rise of Marvel contributed to the death of movie stars.

When Harrison Ford was asked about his opinion on the matter and if he believed that movie stars are not being made, he told GQ:

"Oh, I think it's rubbish. I don't think the question is whether or not there are any movie stars. There's wonderful actors coming up every day. Whether or not they are movie stars is really not the point. If movies need stars, they will find them."

Harrison Ford further explained that he's "an actor" and he has never understood the concept of a "movie star" because he defines himself differently. He said:

"I've never f*cking understood being a movie star. I'm an actor. I tell stories. I'm part of a group of people who work together, collaborate to tell stories. I'm an assistant storyteller. That's what I am."

The Raiders of the Lost Ark actor also hasn't slowed down from acting even decades in Hollywood, with his latest project being the comedy-drama series Shrinking. The show is slated to premiere its second season on Wednesday, October 16, exclusively on Apple TV+. Ford plays Paul in the series, a therapist who is shuddering from Parkinson's disease.

Elsewhere in his GQ interview, Harrison Ford addressed why he has no plans to stop acting in the near future. While he admitted that he should be "sitting on [his] a**" at this point in his career, Ford emphasized:

"But I actually love working"

He said he likes the opportunity to continue telling powerful stories, He added that he chooses his TV or movie projects based on the "quality of writing."

Captain America: Brave New World is slated for a February 14, 2025 release date and will feature Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who has officially taken the mantle of the famed superhero.
