Ryan Reynolds recently defended comedy acting after he received some criticism for being paired with Andrew Garfield for Variety's upcoming chat show, Actors on Actors season 21. In a now-deleted X post, a user compared Reynolds playing Deadpool to Garfield's dramatic acting as a husband and father in We Live in Time:

“Andrew Garfield talking about playing a husband and father whose wife decides to forgo cancer treatment and Ryan Reynolds talking about playing Deadpool."

In response, Reynolds wrote on X on December 6:

"Correct. Andrew's a genius. He and Florence are magic together in 'We Live in Time.' They're heartbreaking and charming and spend the entire film in a high-wire act of humanity and constraint. And yes I am Deadpool, but I will take a second and speak up in defense of comedy."

The Deadpool & Wolverine star admitted that while dramatic work is difficult, comedy is also the same, only that it looks and feels effortless for the audience. He further said that he thinks both drama and comedy are beautiful and "deeply subjective."

Ryan Reynolds' remark made rounds on social media, but some netizens thought that he should have ignored a random comment online. A Reddit user, @crystal-clear24, wrote under a screenshot of Reynold's tweet:

"He needs to log off, clearly this stuff gets to him. Don't go searching for things you know will bother you."

Other netizens also had second thoughts about Ryan Reynolds commenting on someone's passing remark. While some agreed with his defense of comedic work, they believed he should have left it alone.

"After the Martha thing, I don't know if it's better for him to be responding to passing remarks," a Reddit user commented.
"It's sooo embarrassing. No one is saying comedy is not hard... he's clearly sooooo insecure he has to constantly defend himself," a Reddit user wrote.
"I mean he's not entirely wrong but this is really not the time or place to wax poetic about the intricacies of comedy to some random on Twitter. Like dude who cares," a Reddit user chimed in.

Meanwhile, other fans focused on how Ryan Reynolds "thoughtfully" defended the comedy genre.

"Thoughtfully expressed. People don't understand how difficult putting together a work of art is," a user on X commented.
"Great response and [a] powerful lever for improving [the] superficial perception of comedy. This man is wise and at the next level," another X user commented.
