Kendrick Lamar's feud with Drake was a trending on the headlines this year and director M. Night Shyamalan is the latest person to share his reaction. Shyamalan and his daughter Saleka recently appeared in an episode of Way Up With Angela Yee where he spoke about a lyric from Lamar's diss track, Not Like Us.
Kendrick's song starts with the line, "I see dead people," taken from the 1999 psychological thriller The Sixth Sense, directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
Notably, M. Night Shyamalan addressed the reference by saying that he is a fan of Kendrick Lamar and they "lightly know each other." He continued:
"He's very gracious with me, and I love him."
M. Night Shyamalan additionally opened up on Drake's diss track, Euphoria, which also had lyrics referring to his film. He recalled the same by saying that a person from his office disclosed the details of the track to him and he addressed his reply by saying:
"I was like, 'Oh, cool.' That was before everything blew up."
Podcaster DJ Akademiks revealed on a Rumble stream three days ago that Drake has prepared another diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar. Akademiks stated in the stream that he is eager to hear the song.
"Matter of fact, I won't even tell y'all what I heard but the first sneak diss Drake got that's dissin' Kendrick, how he positions it, that's going to be interesting."
M. Night Shyamalan is preparing for the release of his new project Trap: Premise
Also known as Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan, his horror films have been a favorite among the public and critics over the years. Following the success of Knock at the Cabin last year, audiences are eagerly waiting to see his next, Trap, which arrives on the big screen on August 2, 2024.
The basic premise of the psychological thriller will focus on a man who takes his teenage daughter to attend the pop concert of Lady Raven. When the duo arrives at the venue, they discover that the event is a trap planned by the police officers to catch a serial killer.
M. Night Shyamalan appeared for an interview with Empire Magazine on July 1 this year, revealing more details on how he got the idea for the film's storyline. He said that it was inspired by the Silence of the Lambs meets Taylor Swift concert.
The Mahe, Pondicherry native added that his daughter Saleka's career in the music industry played a major role in developing the film's concept. Notably, the latter portrays the second lead of the daughter opposite Josh Hartnett.
Furthermore, Shyamalan stated that he was inspired by Operation Flagship in 1985, where more than 100 fugitives were arrested after being coaxed to a stadium with free tickets for the NFL.
M. Night Shyamalan even addressed his experience of working in the film by stating that he was willing to bring an original story and he "directed an entire concert", adding that it was necessary. He continued:
"There is no pretend concert going on. I love the idea of cinema as windows within windows. One of the reasons to come see the movie at the movie theater is because there's literally a real concert that you can see nowhere except in that movie."
Apart from Josh and Saleka, Trap also features Hayley Mills, Alison Pill, Marnie McPhail, Vanessa Smythe, and Kid Cudi among the lead cast members.
