On Monday, July 22, American stand-up comedian and actor Lil Rel Howery took to his Instagram and shared his stunning weight loss journey. He shared a carousel of images from the Los Angeles special screening of his brand-new film Harold And The Purple Crayon that revealed him in a slimmer frame than before.
The first and second pictures showed him wearing a wine-colored buttoned t-shirt with an off-white and black checkered collar and black jeans. The third was a video of him using dumbbells to practice air punching. The final image showed him posing alongside co-star Dannella Lane and what appeared to be a combination of their respective families at the film premiere.
The 44-year-old used a lengthy caption for his “appreciation post,” sharing how he achieved his body transformation goals.
“I’ve worked really hard on myself the last 5 years physically, mentally, spiritually, professionally, and personally. I’m so proud of myself. This is the best I’ve ever felt and looked in my whole life. Honestly,” he wrote.
Lil Rel Howery shared that he stopped consuming alcohol, started eating better and working out daily to undergo weight loss. He also mentioned how writing, therapy, and fostering a closer relationship with God further helped him in the journey to take “honest accountability” for his own life and well-being, which he described as the “next level of pure happiness.”
“Whatever you do please do for yourself and if you can don’t take the short cut really put the work in this is a whole just straight hard work nothing else and that’s the honest to God Truth. Let me be an example of truly putting the work in,” he added.
In the wake of his social media post sharing a glimpse of his inspiring weight loss journey, his fans are celebrating his transformation. An Instagram user with the handle @forevathena commented under The Shade Room’s repost of the same and claimed that Lil Rel Howery looks like he lost nearly 20 years of age.
Several others lauded Howery and said he looked “incredible,” adding that he no longer looked like the guy from his 2017 film Get Out.
Others mentioned how the phrase “Health is wealth” sounds true by looking at Howery’s transformation. They also drew comparisons to actor Larenz Tate.
Meanwhile, some mocked the Eureka! actor and said he did not reveal the truth behind his weight loss journey. These people claimed that such a massive transformation could only be possible by consuming the Stage 2 diabetes medicine Ozempic, which often comes with the side effects of weight loss.
At the end of his Instagram post, Lil Rel Howery urged his followers to watch his forthcoming film at the theaters on August 2.
