Following an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Johnny Depp is getting attention for past jokes about a presidential assassination. Trump, who is running for the 2024 Presidential Elections, was previously President from 2017 to 2021. During a recent campaign rally, Trump was injured in an attempted shooting but was quickly protected by his security team. He was seen defiant afterwards, pumping his fist.
Regardless, as it turns out, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor had previously joked about an assassination attempt on the American President. Asked about Trump, who was the president at the time, Depp responded in a concerning manner as he joked about an actor assassinating the President:
“I think he needs help. I don't know, there are a lot of wonderful, dark, dark places he could go. By the way this is going to be in the press, it is horrible. When was the last time, an actor assassinated a president?”
As one would expect, a range of users responded to the situation on Twitter, as one of them hoped that the actor ‘received a visit,’ assumedly from the authorities:
“Hope he got a visit.”
A range of other users had things to say about Depp and his past comments:
“Amber said he was violent", one user said.
“I wonder if Amber Heard would say something like that. 🤔" , another wrote.
“I hope Johnny Depp has regrets now, there is always chance for making right choices", one person said.
“All who incited violence against Trump must face prosecution, when we the people have actual representation in government!", one user said.
“You would think Johnny would know better than almost anyone than to trust everything the media reports about someone…", another said.
Johnny Depp receives scrutiny after concerning past statements about Donald Trump make the rounds on the internet
Johnny Depp faced significant backlash for past comments following an attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Trump, aged 78, was at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when the incident occurred, resulting in one person dead and two critically injured. The shooter was promptly killed.
This was the first time that a Presidential candidate or a President was subjected to an assassination attempt since Ronald Reagan back in 1981. It came just four months before the Presidential elections begin on November 5, in which Trump is expected to be against Joe Biden as the Democrat representative.
Regardless, the 78-year-old responded quite fiercely, and seemingly mouthed the words “Fight! Fight! Fight!” despite spending a considerable time on the floor, on the behest of the Secret Service.
