On December 18, 2024, Tom Holland appeared on the Dish podcast, where he was asked about his experience working alongside his reportedly longtime girlfriend, Zendaya. He responded by sharing that "studios love it" and suggested that it is the "best thing" that happened to him.
"Studios love it. One hotel room. Separate drivers. We're not crazy now. Listen, it's work, alright? Oh God, yeah. It's a saving grace. Yeah, the best thing that's ever happened to me," Holland said.
The statement came after the American actress' Vanity Fair interview in November 2024, during which she indicated that being scene partners with her significant other was not awkward. Consequently, the American actress's dating history has come under scrutiny.
According to ELLE, Zendaya and Tom Holland have been reportedly dating since 2021, but the duo met in 2016 while making a Spider-Man movie.
Inside Tom Holman and Zendaya's relationship
The relationship timeline of Tom Holland and Zendaya has garnered attention following Holland's remarks on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Reflecting on his relationship with the American actress, Holland expressed that it is a wonderful experience to share the screen with someone with whom one is familiar.
"It's just that perfect thing when you're on set and a director will give you a note that maybe you don't agree with, or I know that she doesn't particularly like, and it's just that, like, familiar glance at each other of like, can't wait to talk about that later," Holland said.
As mentioned, the rumors of Tom Holland and Zendaya dating began in July 2016 when the American actress appeared on the British actor's Instagram for the first time while shooting Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The post, shared on July 10, 2016, showed Holland, the Oakland artist, and one more friend relaxing in a pool. The caption read:
"Summer Sunday's."
This Instagram interaction continued as, on November 9, 2016, Holland appeared on Zendaya's Instagram for the first time. The American actress shared a cover of The Hollywood Reporter featuring the duo.
On July 13, 2017, the rumors sparked further when People confirmed through an insider that the two were dating. However, shortly after the premiere of Spider-Man: Homecoming in August 2017, Zendaya addressed the dating rumors in an interview with Variety, suggesting that they are just "friends."
"We are friends. He's a great dude. He's literally one of my best friends. This past how many months we've had to do press tours together. There's very few people that will understand what that's like at 20 years old," American actress said.
Fast forward to July 2021, the duo was seen kissing each other in a car, further fueling their relationship rumors. On September 1, 2021, for Zendaya's 25th birthday, Holland shared a mirror selfie on Instagram with a sweet caption.
"My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when your up xxx," Holland wrote.
The actress replied:
"Calling now♥️"
In November 2021, during an interview with GQ, Tom Holland discussed one of the downsides of being famous, revealing how their personal lives, especially romantic lives, are no longer private.
"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," Holland said.
Zendaya echoed similar sentiments during the interview, suggesting that one wishes to keep some moments for oneself when one loves someone.
"The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own," the actress explained to the outlet.
Since then, the couple has been seen together on several occasions. For instance, Zendaya and Holland were captured, leaving the premiere of Holland's most recent film, Uncharted, hand-in-hand on February 16, 2022.
Most recently, on November 13, 2024, during an interview with Vanity Fair, Zendaya was asked about working with her "partner" Tom Holland, whom she met while filming Spider-Man.
When questioned if it felt strange, the Oakland artist described the experience as "strangely comfortable" and elaborated on how working together felt natural and safe.
"It's actually strangely comfortable. It's like second nature if anything. You feel extra safe with the person you're acting beside. I love working with him. He's so talented, and so passionate about what he does," she said.
Holland and Zendaya will appear alongside Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and others in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Odyssey. The movie, distributed by Universal Pictures, is scheduled to premiere in theatres on July 17, 2026.
