Tom Holland and Zendaya, who have been romantically linked since 2021, have managed to strike a balance between their public and private lives. Despite being one of Hollywood's most beloved couples, the duo rarely makes joint appearances on the red carpet. Recently, Holland explained his reasons for this choice, emphasizing his respect for Zendaya’s individuality and accomplishments.

In an interview with Men's Health for a cover story on January 2, Holland elaborated on why he avoids accompanying Zendaya to her premieres.

"It’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us," he stated.

History of Tom Holland and Zendaya's relationship and public appearances

After appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland and Zendaya first sparked dating rumors in 2017. However, they consistently denied any romantic involvement, maintaining that they were just friends.

Their on-screen chemistry in the Spider-Man franchise fueled speculation, but it wasn’t until July 2021 that the pair confirmed their relationship when they were photographed kissing in a car by Page Six on July 1, 2021.

Since then, the couple has kept their romance mostly private, refraining from frequent public displays of affection or red-carpet appearances. Their last joint red carpet event was the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere in Los Angeles in December 2021. Holland spoke about Zendaya in a 2021 Vanity Fair interview, referring to her as the "best thing that’s ever happened" to him.

Ahead of the release of No Way Home, Zendaya shared a sentimental Instagram post on December 16, 2021, captioned,

"My Spider-Man, I’m so proud of you, some things never change and good thing."

In his recent interview with Men's Health, Tom Holland also mentioned a moment he shared with Zendaya during a visit to his family in Cornwall, England. Recalling the incident, Holland said that Zendaya encouraged him to perform a backflip for his younger cousin. Although he managed to execute it successfully, he humorously admitted to pulling every muscle in his stomach.

Tom Holland described their bond as "being able to relate with one another on something that is very, very unique," adding that Zendaya’s presence on set has been a "saving grace."

Tom Holland and Zendaya's professional lives continue to intersect. They last appeared together on screen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland confirmed in October 2024 that his next stint as Peter Parker will begin filming in the summer of 2025, with the movie set to release in July 2026.

Additionally, both actors are reportedly in talks to star in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, slated for a 2026 release. The project is expected to feature an ensemble cast, including Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon. However, Holland recently clarified on the Dish podcast that details about the film remain under wraps.

Zendaya continues to garner critical acclaim for her role in HBO’s Euphoria, for which she has won two Emmy Awards. Holland’s ventures include his business endeavor with non-alcoholic beer brand Bero, which he discussed during the Men’s Health interview.

Most recently, the couple was spotted on December 17, 2024, walking through a mall in Los Angeles. Zendaya wore a white tank top, tapered black pants, and black Margiela Tabi boots. At the same time, Holland sported a gray collared sweater, baggy jeans, and gray-and-white sneakers, as reported by Harper's Bazaar on December 19, 2024.
