In what is a welcome development for subscribers of Amazon Prime Video, they will now be able to watch Disney's highly anticipated Wicked sooner than the rest of the world. This scheme comes from Amazon in partnership with Fandango. As per this deal, subscribers of Amazon Prime Video would be able to catch the movie on November 18, 2024, four days before its official theatrical release.
This deal is a part of the promotional campaign, "Oz on Amazon," which is bringing the movie's screening closer to the Amazon Prime regulars. The tickets have already reportedly gone live on October 30, 2024, and are currently available on OzonAmazon.com.
However, the tickets are still available on a first-come-first-serve basis, which means that fans who want to watch this film earlier than the rest of the world will have to act super quick. Sadly, those who do not have a subscription to Amazon Prime Video will have to take it first before they can attempt to get a pre-screening ticket for Wicked.
Wicked has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year, which also stars pop star Ariana Grande in one of the leading roles. The film's official release is set for November 22, 2024.
What is Wicked all about?
Wicked is an epic musical fantasy movie by Jon M. Chu, with a script written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. Based on the acclaimed stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, it is set in the Land of Oz and takes characters from the Oz universe.
This movie is set to be a two-part adaptation, with the first part dropping on November 22 this year. The second part is slated to release in November 2025.
The play, from which the two-part movie was adapted, is itself based on a novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire and characters from L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
The movie will adapt the first act of the musical, which follows Elphaba's (played by Cynthia Erivo) studies at Shiz University and her eventual transition into the wicked witch. It will also explore her friendship with a classmate (Grande), who will go on to become Glinda the Good Witch of the North.
The ensemble cast of the movie features Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, and Peter Dinklage, besides Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who play the two witches at the center of the tale.
The movie has already premiered at the State Theatre in Sydney, Australia on November 3, 2024, and has received immense critical acclaim. With the hype already surrounding it, this should be one of the biggest movies of the year.
Ahead of the crowd, Amazon Prime Video members can catch Wicked in theatres starting from November 18, 2024. Get your tickets soon and stay tuned for more updates.
