Celebrated veteran actress Shelley Duvall unfortunately passed away following her 75th birthday. The late actress celebrated her 75th birthday on July 7, 2024. She succumbed to diabetes-related complications as reported by her long-time partner Dan Gilroy.
In an exclusive report to The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Gilroy stated that Shelley Duvall passed away in her sleep in her house in Blanco, Texas. Dan Gilroy lamented the loss of his partner although he noted that she was suffering for a long time. He said:
“My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.”
The British Academy Film Award-winning actress was popular for her roles in award-winning films like Stanley Kubrick's The Shining and Robert Altman's 3 Women. Shelley Duvall enjoyed a thriving Hollywood career before deciding to take a long break from Hollywood in the mid-1990s.

Late actress Shelley Duvall was discovered by the director Robert Altman during a party in Texas during the 1970s. Young Duvall was convinced to join Atlman's film Brewster McCloud which propelled her to fame.
She went on to star in numerous Robert Altman classics like Nashville, Thieves Like Us, and 3 Women. Her performance as Mildred "Millie" Lammoreaux in the psychological thriller 3 Women earned her the Best Actress award at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival.
Shelley Duvall will perhaps be most remembered for her role as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining. The actress starred opposite Jack Nicholson and endured a grueling filming process taking more than a year to complete.
Reports suggest that the renownedly meticulous filmmaker Kubrick pushed Duvall to her absolute limit. Around 127 takes were needed for some of her sequences in The Shining, with the famous baseball bat sequence going down in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most takes of a scene with dialogue. Duvall later stated to The Hollywood Reporter that the filming process was mentally exhausting for her and that she would never want to go through the experience again.
Some other memorable roles of Shelley Duvall include her role as Olive Oyle in Robert Altman's Popeye opposite Robin Williams. She was also part of the fantasy film Time Bandits (a reboot series inspired by the film is slated to release on Apple TV+ this year). Other prominent films where the late actress appeared include The Portrait of a Lady, Roxanne, and Tale of the Mummy.
The veteran actress last appeared in the 2023 film The Forest Hills which will go down as her last acting credit.
