Out of everything Marvel fans expected from Sony's third and possibly final installment of the Venom franchise, Venom 3 or Venom: The Last Dance, it seems no one anticipated the appearance of Knull. While the glimpse was brief, it was enough to confirm that the creator of the symbiote will be a part of this third installment.
We still don't know who is playing this Marvel supervillain, but given the shared history with Venom, Knull is definitely the big bad in this one. After the numerous failures of the Sony universe's Marvel adaptations, fans were initially apprehensive of Venom 3. But the recent revelation seems to have fans pumped beyond anything we have seen for Sony movies.
Many fans took to social media platforms like X to express excitement over this appearance. X user @DeadmanBostonB summed this feeling up perfectly, noting:
"I apologize for my previous comments. I am now seated."
Other fans also did not hold back in expressing their excitement for Venom 3.
"Pretty neat. I’m glad the main villain is actually a major Venom villain from the comics. The first trailer got me a little concerned that it was just going to be a generic symbiote made only for the movie."- Another user added.
"Normies don’t understand the multiversal implications Knull brings. Wonder if Sony and marvel finally decided to cook together?"- another user noted, mentioning how bringing in Knull could mean something greater for the universe.
"Sony just pulled up an ace up their sleeve. Knull will make the film way more interesting."- another user said.
"So what if *hear me out*, Knull is so powerful that he wins. He kill off this version of Venom and Eddie so they can pave the way for Tom Hollands universe and symbiots."- another fan remarked.
All in all, it seems that the appearance of Knull could become the primary force behind Venom 3's success if the movie does impress fans worldwide.
Who is Knull in Venom 3?
While the exact version that will appear in Venom: The Last Dance has not yet been exclusively disclosed, Knull is the eldritch god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes, as per Marvel lore.
Though the character is fairly recent, making its first appearance in 2018, it has received immense acclaim and has quickly become the primary villain of the Venom universe. Apart from his rivalry with Venom, he was also linked back to Gorr, the God Butcher's mission to hunt down and kill various gods.
He is credited with creating the immensely powerful All-Black Necrosword and creating the alien race of symbiotes, which is also the primary motif in the Venom franchise.
Knull is also considered one of the strongest supervillains ever appearing in Marvel comics.
It has not yet been clarified who plays Knull and what the future holds for the character beyond Venom 3, but we expect to find out more about this soon.
Venom 3 premieres in theatres across the United States on October 25, 2024.
