Actress Halle Bailey recently said that she is experiencing "severe" postpartum depression following the birth of her son. Bailey, who has a child named Halo with her boyfriend, rapper DDG, talked about how she has adjusted to becoming a mother.
While doing so, the actress compared the feeling to "swimming in this ocean that's [made up of] the biggest waves you've ever felt" in a recent Snapchat video that was posted on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
She said that even though it was extremely horrible, she didn't know whether other new mothers could understand her. She also acknowledged that she finds it difficult to stay away from her child for longer than thirty minutes at a time without being anxious.
Halle Bailey further said,
"Before I had a child and I would hear people talk about postpartum, it would kind of just go in one ear and out the other. I didn't realize how serious of a thing it actually was."
Halle Bailey recently opened up about her postpartum depression after birthing Halo
Halle Bailey, who recently gave birth to her first kid with partner DDG, felt compelled to share specifics about her postpartum experience. The actress from The Little Mermaid revealed the news of her baby's birth in January 2024 by posting a heartfelt message to her newborn son on Instagram.
She revealed how her postpartum depression makes her feel as though she is swimming in an ocean with the greatest waves she has ever experienced. She also said that she is struggling not to drown.
"I just wanted to speak a little bit about my postpartum journey as a new mom," she said.
The actress and singer continued by saying,
"I have severe, severe postpartum [depression], and I don't know if any new moms can relate, but it's to the point where it's really bad, and it's hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out."
Bailey went on to say that she thinks Halo is a miracle in every way. She further admitted that he is lovely and flawless. She did acknowledge, though, that after the birth, the only thing she had trouble with was feeling normal in her own skin.
Addressing the "stigma" associated with postpartum depression, Halle Bailey said,
"When I look in the mirror, I just feel like I'm in a whole new body. Like, I don't know who I am. Before I had a child and I would hear people talk about postpartum, it would kind of just go in one ear and out the other. I didn't realize how serious of a thing it actually was."
Halle Bailey added that even with DDG's assistance at home, it has been difficult. She further claimed that she thinks DDG is the world's most incredible father as he is fully present in their kid's life. The actress went on to say that she couldn't have hoped for a better person to have a baby with.
She continued by making it clear that it has everything to do with her and her current identity and nothing to do with the baby. Given that social media usage is not advised after giving birth, she acknowledged that she believes she was simply set off by something.
The Little Mermaid star then went on to say that she might have also been provoked by seeing some of the remarks made about her, her loved ones, and her family.
On Saturday, January 6, 2024, Halle Bailey revealed the news of her son's birth. Her partner, rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., also known as DDG, is the father of the child. After two years of dating, they had Halo.
While making the announcement on Instagram on her official profile, she uploaded a picture of her well-groomed hand clutching a small hand with a gold bracelet engraved with the word "Halo."
