Black Panther star Letitia Wright is distancing herself from her film's distribution partner, The Daily Wire. The actress, who served as the executive producer for the faith-based film Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, took to her Instagram on Sunday, July 7, 2024, to state she had no say in working with the said company.

"To be clear, after we completed the production of this film, Angel Studios were brought on board to handle its distribution and they later partnered with The Daily Wire," Wright explained.

The Daily Wire is a right-wing media company co-founded by Ben Sharpio, a conservative political activist.

"That was not my decision, and I was not given an update or made aware of this decision. I am in no way aligned or affiliated with the The Daily Wire," the actress added.

Sound of Hope tells the story of Bishop W. C. Martin and Donna Martin from Possum Trot, Texas. They worked with families from their church to adopt 77 children stuck in the foster system.

Letitia Wright asserted that the film, at its core, gave a voice to vulnerable children, and that drew her to the project. Wright teamed up with Peacetree Productions to make the film. Angel Studios (of Sound of Freedom fame), which acquired Peacetree Productions in June 2024, partnered with The Daily Wire to release it in theaters.

"This story isn't about politics, it's about children"— Letitia Wright slams political discourse surrounding Sound of Hope

In her Instagram post, Letitia Wright explained that by telling the story of Possum Trot, the film hoped to inspire families worldwide to come together to help children. Despite its message, she said the movie has become a tool online for political discourse, especially since its affiliation with The Daily Wire.

Sound of Hope was released on July 4. The same day, a columnist for the media company, Matt Walsh, took to his X to promote the film. However, his thread included remarks laced with political bias, such as blaming the left for "trying to stop Christians from saving more children."

Calling out this discourse, Wright wrote:

"This story isn't about politics, it's about children. It's about sacrificial love for children who have experienced unthinkable horrors and how communities at a grassroots level — like the community of Possum Trot — can help provide the safe, loving homes they so desperately need. Any conversation that detracts from that is unnecessary and harmful."

Letitia Wright asserted that she believed in the project's merits, adding that its potential for positive change is "far too important." She encouraged people to watch the film, calling for a change.

In his statement to Variety, the Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing agreed with Letitia Wright's sentiments, saying that they both don't "share politics" but share the goal of spreading the film's message.

Sound of Hope is currently running in theaters.
