Tom Holland and Christopher Nolan are teaming up for an upcoming film, as the Spider-Man star revealed that he got a "phone call of a lifetime" for the starring role. Tom Holland teased his new project during his appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
He confirmed to the show's host that he would "100% without a shadow of a doubt" respond if he were asked to act for a Christopher Nolan project "sight unseen." When the opportunity came to work with the Oppenheimer director, he said yes. Tom Holland revealed:
"When the opportunity came in, it was the phone call of a lifetime. It was reminiscent of getting the call about Spider-Man 10 years ago. It's an amazing thing for me. I'm super proud and I'm really, really excited."
There are not many details about Nolan's highly anticipated project, except that Matt Damon would be on it. That said, the GMA hosts tried to get Holland to spill the tea, but the actor evaded the question by saying:
"All I can say is I'm incredibly excited. And obviously honored, but that's all I can say because, to be honest, that's all I know."
The upcoming feature doesn't have a title yet, but Deadline reported early in October that it will be Nolan and Universal's project. Filming is reportedly set to start early in 2025, with a planned Imax release on July 17, 2026.
Tom Holland is also confirmed for Spider-Man 4, along with working with Christopher Nolan
A film with Christopher Nolan and Matt Damon isn't the only project in the works for Tom Holland. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is also getting a fourth installment of Spider-Man, with Tom Holland returning to reprise the titular role. The actor confirmed the project during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on October 23.
When Fallon asked him if they could confirm on the show that there is Spider-Man 4 and that Holland will be back in it, the actor simply said:
"It's happening."
Tom Holland also revealed that they will start shooting for the upcoming fourth installment of the franchise "next summer." He also assured fans that "everything's good to go" with the film.
While details on what Spider-Man 4 will be about are sparse, Holland previously talked about wanting to bring Miles Morales, the second predominant Spider-Man from the animated Into the Spider-Verse film, into the MCU. He told The Rich Roll Podcast on October 17:
"If I would be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and into the MCU, I'd love to do for a young kid what [Robert] Downey [Jr.] did for me."
He also revealed that he has read the draft for the fourth Spider-Man film, and he said that "it needs work" but also praised the writers for doing a "great job." Holland explained he read the script with Zendaya, adding:
"I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans' respect."
Tom Holland previously revealed, in November 2023, at a press conference with the Critics Choice Association, that he would only reprise his Peter Parker role in a fourth movie if the team involved in the project could give his character justice.
He played the character in three standalone films, all directed by Jon Watts, but the fourth film will reportedly have Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings's Destin Daniel Cretton as director.
