It has been officially announced that In a Violent Nature, the recent Canadian slasher film from IFC Films, is getting a sequel. According to a report from Variety dated July 26, 2024, this confirmation was made during the San Diego Comic-Con. Additionally, the official account of IFC Films shared a post on X, announcing the sequel's arrival.

Written and directed by Chris Nash, In a Violent Nature premiered on January 22, 2024, at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie was later released theatrically in the US and Canada on May 31. It is set to be available for streaming on Shudder later this year.

Upon its release, the film became a favorite among critics and audiences alike, garnering positive critical reception and box office responses. Fans of slasher films will be happy to know that a sequel has been officially confirmed.

In a Violent Nature sequel: Everything we know so far

On July 26, 2024, Variety reported that during the “The Bold Voice of Contemporary Horror” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, IFC Films and Shudder announced that a sequel to the film is in the works. A chilling poster of the same was also released.

The poster features a minimal design, depicting a chain and a hook, with blood dripping from the hook. The chain and hook are things Johnny, the vengeful killer-spirit, carries in In a Violent Nature. This suggests the sequel will be just as gory and violent as the original film.

Variety obtained the following statement from Peter Kuplowsky, one of the producers of the first film:

“In a Violent Nature was originally conceived as a meta-sequel within a fictional slasher series, so we were always imagining mayhem beyond the scope of the original film.”

As per the Variety report, Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer would return to produce the sequel. Chris Nash will once again be in charge of the screenplay. Emily Gotto, Nicholas Lazo, and Samuel Zimmerman would be overseeing development for Shudder.

No official release date has been announced yet for the sequel, but a release in late 2025 or early 2026 seems likely.

In a Violent Nature: Plot

The official synopsis of the film reads:

"The enigmatic resurrection, rampage, and retribution of an undead monster in a remote wilderness unleashes an iconic new killer after a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower that entombed its rotting corpse."

The film starts with a group of friends, and Tory, one of them, displaces a locket they come across. It is gradually revealed that this locket would keep the vengeful spirit of Johnny at peace. Decades ago, Johnny was born with certain infirmities, and his murder was made to look like an accident.

With the locket gone from its place, Johnny’s corpse lunges out of the ground and starts looking for the group, killing numerous people in the process. Johnny eventually hunts down the group of friends and kills them one by one.

In a Violent Nature blends horror and slasher to create a gory thriller. By the end, only Kris is able to get out of the situation alive, and Johnny’s locket is given back, presumably restoring him to peace once again.
