Disney is all set to add a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada which was released in 2006 and directed by David Frankel. The movie against a budget of approximately $35-41 million, made a box office collection of $326.7 million. The Devil Wears Prada was based on the 2003 novel of the same name, penned by Lauren Weisberger, which was a New York Times Bestseller.

On today’s date, the novel holds a commendable rating of 3.8/5 on Goodreads, whereas the film The Devil Wears Prada (2006) has an IMDb rating of 6.9/10. The Devil Wears Prada starred big names in the industry like Meryl Steep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt among many others.


Everything we know about the upcoming sequel of The Devil Wears Prada

It’s been 18 long years since The Devil Wears Prada stormed the box office and compelled everyone with a story about fashion, love, and pop culture. As per Variety, Disney has confirmed that a sequel is in the works in July 2024.

To date, no news about the plot and storyline has been revealed by the media house. However, it has been revealed that American screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the script for the original film is in talks to write the script for the sequel as well.

Meryl Steep and Emily Blunt will be reprising their original roles as per the reports but nothing has been confirmed by Disney.

Though the exact details of the cast members and plot have not been announced yet, the sequel will supposedly follow Miranda Priestly who attempts to navigate the fall of print media in an increasingly digitized world. She will have to face off against Blunt's character Emily Charlton who is not a powerful executive of a luxury company.

The film revolves around Andy Sachs, who works as a junior PA to Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine. Initially, Andy fumbles to find her footing in the fashion industry and has to keep up with Miranda's constant demands and humiliation.

As she gradually gets good at her job, Andy finds it hard to find a balance between her personal and professional life.

This 2006 film was produced by Wendy Finerman and directed by David Frankel. The synopsis of the film as per Rotten Tomatoes reads:

"Andy (Anne Hathaway) is a recent college graduate with big dreams. Upon landing a job at prestigious Runway magazine, she finds herself the assistant to diabolical editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Andy questions her ability to survive her grim tour as Miranda's whipping girl without getting scorched."

In the film, she was Miranda Priestly’s first assistant and Andrea Sachs was the second. She trained Sachs to be good at her job. Emily has recently been in movies like The Fall Guy (2024) and Oppenheimer (2023) among others.

Other than Meryl, Anne, and Emily, the film also started Stanley Tucci as Nigel, Adrian Grenier as Nate, and Daniel Sunjata as James Holt among many others.
