"It was like conjuring pure evil"— Bill Skarsgard talks about playing vampire Count Orlok in upcoming film Nosferatu and how it impacted him

Bill Skarsgard, the popular actor who will be seen in the remake of Nosferatu recently spoke to Esquire, and spoke about his role in the movie, and how “it took its toll.” In an interview published on May 29, 2024, Bill Skarsgard said:

“It took its toll. It was like conjuring pure evil. It took a while for me to shake off the demon that had been conjured inside of me.”

Furthermore, Bill Skarsgard also spoke about his makeup for the character, stating that he used to spend close to three to six hours every day. He also revealed that he used to train with an opera singer so that he could maximize the depth of his voice. Bill Skarsgard said:

“I do not think people are gonna recognize me in it. He’s gross… but it is very s*xualized. It’s playing with a s*xual fetish about the power of the monster and what that appeal has to you. Hopefully you’ll get a little bit attracted by it and disgusted by your attraction at the same time."

Nosferatu is an upcoming American horror film, which is set to release globally on December 25, 2024. As per the movie’s official site, the film will be about a haunted young woman who gets attracted to a vampire.

The movie will star Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlok, Nicholas Hoult as Thomas Hutter, Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, Aaron Taylor Johnson as Friedrich Harding, and Emma Corrin as Anna Harding.

As Bill Skarsgard spoke to Esquire about his character in the forthcoming film, he was accompanied by the director of his film, Robert Eggers, who talked about the development of the character.

Eggers said:

“I remember early on, him trying to talk to me about what it meant to be a dead sorcerer — and I’m into some pretty heavy occult s---, but he was on a different level. Somewhere in that second makeup test, I was like, ‘He’s become the character.’ It was eerie to see in the footage. Anything he did, anywhere he turned or looked, you were like, ‘He’s got it.’”

The development of Nosferatu started almost a decade back in 2015, just after the release of The Witch. The website of the movie revealed that the entire film has been shot in parts of the Czech Republic, and Romania. Being a remake, the movie is based on Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror.

Apart from Nosferatu, Bill will also be seen in The Crow, Locked and Emperor in late 2024, and 2025. The Swedish actor, born in 1990 is best known for portraying roles in horror movies and series like It, It Chapter Two, Hemlock Grove, Castle Rock, and Barbarian. He has also explored other genres like comedy as he did movies like Simple Simon.

The actor is also popular for his work in Kenny Begins, Anna Karenina, Victoria, Allegiant, Battlecreek, Deadpool 2, Boll Kills World, and many more.
